Balls Head Reserve and Sydney Harbour views : September 3 2024
Wake to a scratchy throat - maybe a reaction to the big wind yesterday driving spring pollen around. Was going to train and ride to look for orchids. My wife was going to meet a friend of ours for coffee in the city. Decided to join them and stop in Balls Head Reserve to check on an orchid seen a few years back on the way back
Climbed out at Waverton Station. Photo up the line as train disappears under the old station building
Photo of one of the old houses looking down to Lavender Bay - not the roof caps - quite a few ornamental ones here
View over the old coal loader toward the oil depot. When we first were looking for houses in Sydney one was against top fence of the terminal. The principal at the local school was not accommodating so we went elsewhere. Just as well. Was happier on the beaches
Contrasting houses - a modern ship design
View across the harbour to the city
Location shot
Was pretty sure I knew where the orchid was - on a tree like this. Walked well past the spot and then dug out my instructions sent to a friend. Retraced the steps
This cross branch was in the instructions Was in the right place but no orchids
Walked all the tracks to see what else there was - pea flower
Grevillea in pink
Access to the cliff edges had been restricted - got to make photos in tippy toes
Similar for angles of new buildings on Barangaroo. Crown Casino is the tall one
Mushroom time
One spot does have city views - across to Harbour Bridge and Opera House
View to city including Sky Tower
View up the river
Wax flowers in white
View across to the coloured warehouse buildings in Balmain now an arts centre
One last view of the bridge
Found this lizard on a side trail - stood and posed
Bottle brush along the way back
A change of light makes a quite different picture
View back to the office blocks in North Sydney
View of Waverton Station from the front - the railway line goes under the road
2nd lizard of the day at home
Dinner: Chicken curry.
Cold is building - going to be a bad night
