Exploring remnant turpentine forest in Gordon : July 18 2024
A slow start on a blue sky day. Late night watching the Tour de France and being up when US markets open extracts a price. Did get out walking after lunch - headed north with a view to walking to Pymble and train back
At the start of each walk I am looking for a theme. Spied a crimson rosella chomping seeds. Close by was this rainbow lorikeet sucking grevillea nectar
Was tough to get a photo of the rosella against the light - hanging upside down
A splash of white
Started out on the back road to Pymble - grand trees
A few old houses - not walked this side of the road - always the other side
One had a budget for nice bricks - not this one
This is camellia season - all doubles
A few old grand houses - this one with a European look
The more traditional red brick
Went off the main road on a side road that also heads across to Pymble - not been down this road by car or foot
A tinge of pink and yellow
Pink form of a half double camellia - topped the ridge
A modern knock down upgrade - got architect design look
The house next door is an oldie being renovated inside - chatted with the builder
Bigger and grander up the hill
Old style is fab - two views
From the front with a dormant magnolia
The road goes to a dead end - followed that ti see if there was access to the bush. There was with stairs down to the creek
Fern forest below near the creek. No orchids though. Too close to the houses - weed killer from the lawns wipes them out
The huge trees against the afternoon sun is the highlight
Creek at the bottom flowing well. A peaceful place
Path I was on intersects this sealed path - it cuts through the wood from our side to Pymble side. It will make a good cut through to cycle back to my old neighbourhood cutting out the cars and the steep hills
One mushroom
Went up out the steep path to the tennis court at Richmond Park. Found the sign about the forest - a remnant turpentine forest. It is similar to one near where we lived but in much better shape - less understory debris
Will be cycling this trail before too long - a quiet place though there is always traffic noise
Fab site for a scout hall. Of note is the two stone pillars in front are part of the support structure for the old suspension bridge over the creek
Moon and the cycle route signs
Flowering magnolia on the way back. Was good to find new roads and tracks not far from home
Dinner plans - pasta with chicken and a creamy mushroom sauce. Chef decided to try something different
Saute mushrooms in butter. Set aside. Then onions and garlic and capsicum and set aside. Saute some chopped bacon. Brown the chicken and set aside
Make a roux (butter and flower). Add in chopped garlic and get it a little toasty. Then push on to make a bechemel - milk, cream and a little parmesan
Toss in the sauted ingredients in reverse order from what needs to be warmed up - chicken first and veges last
Snip some spring onion green bits for show. Serve with pasta and black pepper
Yum
Trade action: Added one uranium stock on good news - AEC.V. Adjusted a bunch of stocks likely to be assigned ABN.AS, CBK.DE, FRE.DE, LXS.DE, SIFG.AS, RR.L, GOLD, IVZ, GDX, DDD
Ugly markets - hope they do not so the same on the last dsy of options expiry tomorrow.
