Comerong Beach - shells and light : July 14 2024

Weekends are not a good time to be photographing orchids on the Seven Mile Beach NP tracks - get mowed down by cyclists. Makes for a different plan. Ride down to river and walk to Comerong Island - winter orchids to be found

Ride down to river and walk around the foreshore to access the island behind. This photo has clues - two black oystercatchers just past the log and the water is high. Too hard to walk the low water line without risking their nests

Decided to cross to the beach and walk south until I could get the beach track access onto the island. Walked sections where water has been - no nests surviving there. View back to Southern Tablelands

Did get close to Comerong Island Reserve sign - path is some way away from there - chose to head back to beach

View of the mountain across the dunes down the beach

Gave up the island walk idea and just walked the beach. It was windy and the waves were wild. Photo includes a small bird - maybe a little tern or a red capped plover. They cruise along where the water reaches

These were super smart - hiding behind the log out of the wind blowing from the South

Footprints in the sand - maybe half an inch long foot size

Jogger came toward me just as I was deciding how hard it was to walk in the somewhat wet sand. I headed to the dry sand - she kept motoring in that soft stuff

More oystercatchers on the walk south - turned here to give them space

The afternoon light did give good angles for shell photos - a mussel

Oyster cap - sand shows the way water and wind flows

Clam in black

Clam in red quite a bit bigger

Sponge form

Finer sponge form

View of the mountain foreshortened by the dunes

Windy walk. Too bad it was too hard to get on the island but a beach walk always brings photo topics. The best is being able to get there with a short bike ride

Dinner: Pizza served on French cheese plates in honour of Bastille Day. Did watch the Tour stage too - not to the end.

Eventful photography outdoors, beach sand workout on it's own, with something interesting to find whenever you visit.

Wow brother the beach walk sounds refreshing, even if the island plan didn’t work out. Great photos and nice details man.
