Trim greenhoods in Seven Mile Beach NP : July 12 2024

avatar

Forecast was for a cold day with rain. Started all cloudy - that kept me indoors - then the cold burned away into mild blue sky day. Got on the bike to walk Seven Mile Beach NP

First photo of note - mushroom

Walked the front end of Seven Mile Beach NP - trim greenhood showing not far from start of the walking

Change of angle to get a view of the labellum. It and the helmet are forked - pterostylis concinna

Unusual fungal form - like luminescent putty

Weird form on this eucalyptus - like an Easter Island statue

Rosette matching the trim greenhood - too bad so many of the front on photos were out of focus. Good thing is there were lots

Side on

Would not be a walk in Seven Mile Beach NP without a native violet - a few still going

Budding greenhood - hard to tell what it is other than bud forming is bigger than trim greenhood

Did find one colony of helmet orchids still flowering - corysanthes fimbriatus - 2nd orchid for the day

Really was a day for trim greenhoods - a few colonies found on the way back. It does pay to walk out and back

Did get a back view in focus

Did struggle to find the cleft labellum photo

This one has been a bit mangled by a bug

First ride done in a while. Good to get steps in and two orchids flowering. The acianthus orchids are all finished

Dinner plans - something different - a chicken stew Mediterranean style

Ingredients all lined up - chicken thighs cut in half - not chopped up

Brown the seasoned chicken. Then saute the vegies - onions, garlic, capsicum, zucchini . Mushrooms and egg plant went in later.

Deglaze the pan with a little wine - add chicken stock and some tomato passata and tomato paste. Bring to boil. Added in chipped potato a little late. Then add the quick cook vegies - egg plant and mushrooms. Cook away for 30 or 40 minutes.

The pictures are very beautiful
I love that dish mostly because it has carrots…

Carrots are a secret stew ingredient - a bit of sweet, a bit of bitter and a little crunch

Always nice to find helmets open at the end of season. Saw hundreds of leaves - maybe more
