First mayfly orchids in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP : June 27 2024

(Edited)

A clear blue sky day. Perfect for a bush walk on Terrey Hills side of Ku-ring Gai Chase NP ahead of the shopping. Mission - hoping to find first mayfly orchid and a few greenhoods. Chose to walk first and shop after

Am finding photographing the bigger mushrooms is a challenge - they soak up a lot of light and hard to keep camera still to get focus right. Got this one right

Huge cluster of acianthus leaves but no flowers - must be at least 200 plants in view

Was hoping to find helmet orchids behind that cluster - none to be found. None also on the edge of the track higher up. Mountain bikes probably got those. Did find these inside of that track edge

Spurred helmet orchid colony - first photo shows the spurs nicely

This one too - twins - corysanthes aconitiflorus

Cobra greenhood a little higher than I have seen before. The angle is unusual - something stopped it growing straight up

This one really close to the ground makes it hard to see labellum - pterostylis grandiflora - well named. It is grand

A few hibbertia flowering

Mission achieved - heart shaped leaf just off the ground with a flower spike

Mayfly orchid - acianthus caudatus. Happy with the photo with light just in the right place. They were exactly where I saw them last season

Spurred helmet orchids with a darker helmet colour - almost looks like corysanthes downglii - spurs say otherwise

A few the same colour in this spot

More mayfly orchids - light looked the same but photos tell a different story. A bit like an impressionist painting with bold lines

Was hoping to find nodding greenhoods - found ibe seeded and one flowering - pterostylis

Blue mushroom - about the size of an Aussie 20c piece. See what I mean about hard to focus. Maybe it is the operator - snap and move before the snap is taken

Did not find the tall greenhoods where I was hoping. Went back into the bush off the track back and found one.

Bunochilus longifolia - plant grows 6 to 9 inches tall and will have 4 to 5 flowers. Hard to photograph as slightest breeze moves the flower and they are small. Say half the width of a baby fingernail and the same length.

Did make for a 5 orchid dsy with one not photographed. Lovely morning to be out walking

Did the shopping - a big shop to grab once a month 10% discount.

Went into the city by train to meet a friend for a drink. Met in the Sheraton on the Park hotel. Takes me back to my first visits ti Sydney before I moved here. I mostly stayed there as it is central and close to where our office was. Good news - they now do happy hour - $6 for winter or beer is half price

Bad news: Saying see you later to Hive! 👋

We didn't get the needed support to continue cXc.world on Hive, as our DHF proposal lacked votes, but [Good News Everyone] cXc.world will add a Markdown copy button, allowing you to easily share your music + music you find on Hive.

For now, we're on WAX, with tools you can use to mint your own Music/Media NFT collection.
