Shoalhaven River on the edge : June 17 2024
Was really windy night. Was up in the dark hours closing the doors under the house. Rained on and off a fair bit in the morning - kept me inside working up the weekly investing post
Did get out on the bike to ride down to the river. Wanted to see if the river had opened to the sea
Photos show the amount of timber that came down in the floods. The whole sand area on the edge of the river is not safely walkable. View back to Coolangatta Mountain
View across to the island - not walkable today
A few banksia flowering
The view to flathead corner - going to guess the channel the fish like will still be deep enough
The loop around where the river would flow if it was open. A great driftwood picking spot
View down to Point Perpendicular - looks like the river did join the sea at the last high tide
Huge sea eagle flew across the front - too far to get a good photo - even when it stopped for a rest
Timber is where the river got to last time - the waves are crashing just over the other side. Notice the little terns scurrying around the edges of where the water came. Food is there
Seagulls active between the two
View back to the mountain into the
dipping sun
Looking north to Gerroa
Waves tried hard to reach the river - 20 paces it was. Brings the sand with it. Maybe next high tide there will be a river
Distant rainbow over the timber debris
Surprised to find one flower open - well past its season - leptospermum squarrosum
Not expecting to find this flowering in the bush - Indian hemp
Last photo of the mountain on the way back.
They are building a new bike path along River Road - includes new signage to the Botanic Garden
Good to be out on the bike after the rainy times
Dinner. My wife cooked osso bucco. I made mash. Nice to have a night off cooking.
Trade action: With Europe stocks getting smashed by the EU Parliament election and an early French election, kicked the can down the road on a few sold put on European Banks

Wow the rains pushed half the forest inland down to river mouth, nice wood for those who use it on open fire cooking (braai) once dried out.
Banksia so beautiful in full bloom always find them stunning, much like our Protea family. Fascinating is that they all originated in North Africa. Hemp plant similar to the Wild Dagga of South Africa.

In time a man and a bakkie and a chain saw will clear all that timber
The hemp caught my eye as have not seen it here but remember it as a kid in Joburg
However collects all that wood can sell of making a fair amount for a little hard work.
It is a striking flower to see when out, like the Gloriosa Superba Red - Flame Lily we noticed on a dune a couple of years back, must have been washed down with floods in months earlier.
Okayyyy
What I love most about today’s post is how you are taking the pictures and also giving an explanation to them
It’s amazing!
The pictures also look beautiful
Thanks - the eyes get the photos. The words makes the story. Every day I go out I look for the images and the story comes. With nature it is easy
