A contrast of Sydney suburbs - 75 years apart : June 9 2024

(Edited)

A day in two parts. Headed into Sydney inner suburbs for brunch with our guest's daughter. Destination is Newtown which has a busy cafe culture, semi detached houses and old buildings

The tabby cat was enjoying the sun and did not move when we parked. Well until my wife got out the car - then it wanted strokes

The semi-detached house next door to where the cat was. No front garden. Peeling paint and very small

Two doors down was this little cottage with a development proposal notice up. Going to guess these are heritage listed and may not change much - looks like a perfect candidate for a knock down

Painted alcove with door colour almost matching bought a touch of class

Fire station opposite the cafe - early 1900s is my guess. No date visible

Court House next door - built in 1885 - now housing the police station

We had a good brunch - food was good. Sitting at the table next to us was one of the founders of Atlassian - the up and coming Australian software company - and in the top 10 wealthiest in the country.

Headed home the long way around - lovely day to see the many water views on the way.

Went to walk the local streets to get steps up. Walked a loop the other way ariund that crosses the railway via this subway. Gives a chance to explore houses from the other side from last time

An old style cottage with its large covered porch - photo from the other side today

House for sale opposite - a typical style for the knock downs or major renovations - massive houses with at least 6 bedrooms upstairs and a swimming pool behind

Old style house - called Rosebank - name is of suburbs in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Live in the one in Cape Town in the 70's

This is what happens when they do not knock down. Go back into the block and make it boxy. Next time they will go up a level

This type of renovation is nicer - keep the structure and fix the cladding

Autumn colours in the acer trees.

Walk got the steps done. Spent the afternoon watching Aussie rules football. Our guest played at a serious level. My wife went out to babysit her grandson - more footy allowed.

Dinner: BBQ lamb chops - yum

The tabby cat looks so big and was looking like a baby tiger in the first place😁😁
