First painted fingers orchids and fish pie : June 2 2024
One would think a 10:30 start would be plenty of time to be ready. Oops - 7 minutes to get ready. Was a late night and a few turns over - made it just on time
The event - memorial for our friend Drew who lived opposite us. Taken too soon. His memorial was what he wanted - friends getting together to have a chat. He is the one with the beard. Farewell Drew
Got on the bike to walk a slice of Seven Mile Beach NP - pixie caps orchids aplenty
Heart shaped leaf on the ground and a flower spike
Not happy with the out of focus but did want to show pollonia deposited in two spots. Somewhat wasted there
Mushroom time - not at the focus level I like
2nd orchid in flower - side on of pterostylis concinna - also a bit out of focus
Front on showing the forked labellum
Pale face mushroom
Fringed helmet orchid - lots of those about
Corunastylis fimbriatus
Twins
Close in
More mushroom action
A walk in Seven Mile Beach NP is not complete without a native violet
Turning point for the walk - do not normally go this far but want to walk the whole segment this week
Good thing the mushrooms like the sandy base
Drying out time
First painted fingers orchid for the season caught me by surprise - it is time
Caladenia picta - this one has the red back to column. 1st one did not
Good to find a few open - 4 in all
A bit bedraggled version shows the red backing to the column
A better photo of pterostylis concinna showing the forked tongue
Side on
Oyster mushrooms on a fallen tree stump
First time on the bike in a while
Dinner: fish pie - make a roux with some sliced garlic and chopped chives
Poach the cubed fish with a slice of onion and lemon zest - set aside
Turn the roux into a bechemel - milk, grated brie and cheddar and parmesan
Not shown - make a pot of mashed potato and hard boil an egg or two
Layer into an over proof pot - some bechemel, the fish, some mash - later the eggs sliced
Layer over the rest of the mash and bechemel - sprinkle with some grated cheese and paprika
Bake for 30 minutes at 180C - serve with some greens - peas for us

The mushrooms are really beautiful. I heard a lot of people eat mushrooms. I’d give it a try someday
Nice pictures!
They do. One of my friends tells me which are edible. I will start one day when I can walk with someone who knows
I hope your friend rests in peace
Also, the pictures are very beautiful and lovely
Thanks - we only knew him for 2 years - he was a lovely man. The best is he was fabulous with animals. He used to train wolves for movies. And his dog was lovely
