Midge and ant orchids on old tracks : February 17 2024
Building up to a hot day. Was a late start after a 2 am bed time. Busy morning working on the uranium investing thesis. Was keen to get walking - easy idea - drive across to our old neighbourhood and puck up mail and slot on a walk or two. Target - midge orchids and wasp orchids on two tracks
New signage where I normally park my bike - no bike today - car
NSW coral heath flower - epacris pulchella
Did find midge orchids under the powerlines - a new spot
First one was seeded
A few plants in the same area
Fringed midge orchid - corunastylis fimbriatus
Hibbertia
Pink leptospermum
Banksia serratum opening up
Orchid leaf forming - bearded orchid for the new autumn season
Seeded hyacinth orchid
Fringe midge orchid - corunastylis fimbriatus - known spot - 4 plants that have set up a few metres down the track from where I first saw them
Mushroom found on the way back. Wonder when they disguise themselves like stones - critters do not eat stones - no emus here
Each walk is a recce for future weeks - another bearded orchid
ID on this leaf is harder - maybe a microtis
Drove down to access Lovers Jump Creek - wasp orchid hunt time
Two colonies either side of the track down to the creek. A few buds on one side but photos were poor. This is good - chiloglottis sylvestris - the calli form a bit of a rosette
One of two flowers open
Mushroom the size of a saucer - a bit of damage on the front side meant I did not have to knock it over so gurus can see the underside
Chiloglottis leaves formed - no buds yet
Off track in a known spot - chiloglottis budding - not quite open
Turtle orchid - chiloglottis seminuda - not calli only go to halfway down the labellum
This one - a few inches away - looks different. Calli go a bit further but not in a rosette and there is a notch on the labellum
The more normal shape for chiloglottis seminuda
Picked up the mail. Nice chat with the new owners. Hoping to have the mail stuff sorted so I do not need to go back - hard to see stuff being changed badly
Dinner: Pizza - marked down made it a $6 meal for two.
Trade action: Bought AEE.AX, SLX.AX - more uranium and nuclear plays

Those are great orchid pictures, thought my favorite one is the chiloglottis one, texture looks beautiful. Great pizza ending, Bona petit!
Indeed from the way you describe the orchid makes it easier to fall in love with. Great comment
