From Laguna vistas to Lovers Jump Creek orchids : August 13 2023
Turned into a late night chatting, a few more reds. Was last man standing well after midnight. Hoping for a good sleep - did not work that way - awake after maybe two hours. Restless after that. Did see the sunrise colours off the trees behind. Chose not to move for photos. With all the late nights it was a late start for breakfast
Fab views down the valley
Looking a little left away from the road. Had a small rain shower
A few mist banks below the tops of the mountains. We did get organised for a late breakfast - call it brunch. Was a fab gathering getting to know folk my wife has known for years and years. No photos was part of the deal
Went walking Lovers Jump Creek when we got home - steps and orchids needed.
First up photo of maroonhoods - nice cluster open now
Slightly better photo of budding caladenia orchid - still out of focus. Got to get back on a sunny day to get the focus right. Or wait for opening day
Hypericum in yellow is now open
More subdued colour across the track - pterostylis pedunculata
Front on shows the labellum
Native violet - one open
Track back past the common ant orchid site - got a new opener here
The gum nut below made focus super easy. We will see how good that photo was in a few photos time
Mushroom action
Sundew flowering
Sun orchids are now pushing out flower spikes
Headed to the other spot for common ant orchids on the other side of the creek - two budding
Found one open - chiloglottis formicifera - light was low and focusing was hard
Matching leaves - two plants. The plant is growing in the moss on a 75° rock face
Had seen a mayfly orchid budding off track last walk. Found one track side - acianthus caudatus. Need better light for the right photo - best plan a morning walk. Good to find one as the track work and sewer line work has caused havoc
King greenhoods are now budding. There are a few plants either side of the track.
Someone else knows - two plants have been dug out. Looks like two tidy holes dug with a trowel. I know what a wallaby dig looks like - there are scrape marks and tell-tale peak away from the start of the scrape. The sad news is the local wallaby was knocked over by a car last week - no photo but I saw the outcome
A new nodding greenhood. The track work has sure disrupted the season - plants are still there, smaller and few flowers
Headed over to a friend for a chat, a glass of wine and I got a haircut. Nice chat - it is the start of something new. Our friend is buying into a retirement village. We have the chance to buy her apartment. Sell our house to release capital and have a small Sydney base.
The journey begins
Dinner: Rehashed Hungarian goulash with pasta
