First cobra greenhood for 2023 on local track : May 9 2023
The days are starting to jam into each other. I sit one day and cannot recall what went on the morning before. I do know it was a tough night - slept in the spare bed as we had a friend staying.
My wife took her friend into the city for her appointment. I did some pottering around in the garden
What I do know is in the camera - walked the Darri Track from Glengarry side so I could check on helmet orchids when my eyes were fresh. Fab colours on this mushroom to start
Budding helmet orchid - last year these were fully in flower - maybe 10 days behind
Mushroom in rusty red
Found a flowering mosquito orchid. Was trying to photograph a flower higher up the spike and saw the ant moving down below. Hard to get focus as light was low - the ant is a pollinator though the orchid is optimised to attract mosquitos. Orchid type is acianthus pusillis - narrow hood and smooth labellum
A little further on saw the little caterpillar. Only when I got back home to see the photo did I notice it had been eating the leaf in a perfect semi-circle
Orchid leaf in the mossy bank where I access the secret autumn orchid spot - a spring orchid
One new sharp greenhood flowering
Pterostylis acuminata - 3rd orchid for the day
This is what I came for - cobra greenhood - first for the season
Side on showing labellum - pterostylis grandifloris
One budding - looks a lot like the orchid I saw budding last week in Seven Mile Beach NP. We are going that way again next week - should find it open down south too.
A few helmet orchids budding this side too
A different greenhood rosette - tall greenhood - a few weeks to flowering
The most advanced of the helmet orchid buds. Can see the spurs forming - spurred helmet orchid
Some debate on naming - corybas or corysanthes aconitiflorus. Some like to separate out the helmets that open vs ones that are fully hooded.
Nodding greenhood rosette. This is a special location - 4 greenhoods in 20 square metres
Another rusty mushroom growing on a mossy rock
South Cowan Creek tumbling above the causeway
Cute little mushroom with sublime colours
Got in below to see the stem
Not a bush photo but a great sign of autumn coming along
Somehow got through the day - steps and orchids help. My wife had cooked osso bucco for dinner. I did the veges.
Turned into a late night updating the investing post. Leofinance launched the new UI. It does not work - could not upload images. Had to use a different front end - got to 1 am doing that. Read it on https://mclnks.com/tib654
Investing action: Bought MYX.AX, MND.AX. Adjusted WDS.AX ahead of budget down under
