Bunny orchids week continues : April 22 2023
Got the head down on a rainy morning to update the investing accounts after options expiry. A lot to do once a month. My wife went off to a lunch with old school friend and their German teacher. Kicked around a little on the internet marketing projects. I have a huge email deliverability problem. Tried a few ways to fix it - not found the answer yet. Each time I start I get bogged down.
Took the car to go shopping - went to a small centre to avoid the people. It poured with rain and the motorway was scary. Drove back in the dry away from the motorway. Took the umbrella to walk Gibberagong Track - NSW coral heath flower above
Was turning into a banksia day. I was not hopeful of finding orchids but did feel there was a chance for bunny orchids
Lambertia formosa
There were mushrooms - rain and autumn come together
Reflections in the puddles on the track
Coral heath flower with a touch of pink - zoom into centre shows the structure is same as the first photo
Different banksia - with long spiky leaves
The first orchid find was a surprise - sharp greenhood - pterostlyis acuminata - just one
Mushroom found a home on a tree trunk
So many different stages for banksia flowers
Coral fungus
Scribbly gum in the pampas grass shows up well in afternoon light
Wavy mushroom shape
Found the first bunny orchid on the way back. Not seen them here - ID is hard - I am thinking eriochilus petricola based on size. Key to ID is the leaf
It is small. Smooth might negate ID - perhaps eriochilus cucullatus
There were quite a few in different patches - flowers all look the same to me
Next photos are a bit of fun - double header - choose the focal point - front
Or back
Surprised to find a pine-leaf geebung still flowering
Started to rain again - mushroom fits the mood
Turned into a good day. Got the shopping done. Found two orchids flowering on a track I was not confident of finds. Only got sprinkled on a little.
Garden stuff. Got little white flies in the beans. They are quietly wiping the plants out. One treatment - yellow tape with sticky stuff. Shake the plant and they fly to the yellow. Weed killer bottle covered in citronella did the trick. Will pull the plants out and start over - too far gone.
Dinner: Cheat prawn and scallop pots in the airfryer. Might have been close to use by date for my wife - fine for me.
