Visiting Seven Mile Beach - no swimming April 11 2023
Got the weekly investing post published. Spent a lot of the morning on IM stuff. Did get out on the bike to revisit a slice of Seven Mile Beach NP - try to walk sections each week
Took a small side track not walked last week. Found some greenhoods forming up. Makes a new site
Lobelia been attacked by a bug
Budding mosquito orchid also on a new site
A little further behind
The big eucalyptus trees are just amazing - curves and blue sky
Mushroom caught my eye and a mosquito orchid leaf
Seems that one can always rely on a native violet to be open at this time of year
Small snake lost a contest with a car. Footprint from the people whose car was parked at the access road to the beach they walked in.
Was really hoping to find one mosquito orchid open. No luck
New greenhood patch open since last week
Palm fruit seen last week. Wallabies have not found them yet
Textures and colours make a great mushroom shot
Already 5 leaves in the greenhood rosette. Two forming - going to guess one is the flower spike
A few mosquito orchids with leaves well off the ground. Normally they only do this when they are pollinated - they do self pollinate. Looks to me like they are struggling for light and are pushing higher
Twining glycine - photo worked well onna small subject
Do not often see this. Mosquito orchid budding with a second leaf just below the flowers.
A few Seven Mile Beach photos - looming south
Looking north to Gerroa
Dad walking with the kid in the back pack and camera in hand.
Nice round trip as if on the bike and did find a few new spots for orchids on the west side of the road
We have friend and her sister coming over for dinner. Roast quails is the call. Step one is to slide in a butter/rosemary/sage/garlic/salt/pepper mix under the akin - back of the teaspoon prise skin apart
Inside goes a sprig of rosemary and sage and a bruised garlic cove and a wedge of lemon
Tie the legs together - we used a wool/cotton yarn as this is what we had available - comfortable enough it will not catch fire. Set in an oven at 180C for 30 minutes
Served with dauphinoise potatoes. Simple recipe. Simmer cream, milk in equal proportions with a few cloves of fresh garlic - lay in sliced potatoes and cook away until potato is soft.
Layer in a baking tray and roll in the sauce - strain out the garlic and lumpy stuff. Grate on a hard cheese and bake for 30 minutes - about the same time and heat as the quail
Got to say the quail did not brown the way I like - colour and crispness is not quite there. Why? It was not on the top shelf
Well our guests loved the dinner. Roast quails and a mix of vegetables went down a treat
That investing post
Was a week of holding back and doing a little cherry picking type adjustments
