New spot for common wasp orchid in Seven Mile Beach NP : April 9 2023

Disturbed night with a big wind blowing stuff all over. Smart move would have been to get up and find the a source. The noise weaved its way into weird dreams. Cooked breakfast to start. Our friend has planned a special prime rib roast Easter lunch - my job - sear the prime rib and get the cook going

The art - cover the bones with foil so they do not burn black. Season with salt and pepper. You could choose a crust of your favourites. Sear in butter - I used the pan it would roast in - gravy in mind

Cook in 130C oven for 1 and a half hours - rest for 15. Finish off the veges in the rest time

Was just fab and we got to share a special Easter dinner with our friend

Went out on the bike to walk a slice of track walked last week

Scurvy weed

Checking up on orchid progress in a week. Two types in frame

Budding mosquito orchid

Another one close by

Mushroom and sand grains

Found a greenhood budding

Used to finding heart shaped leaves. This is a little rounded and has a bud - thinking helmet orchid

Another budding greenhood

A miniature daisy - one day I will get an ID

These orchids budding are a bit unusual - normally the leaf stays until pollination. This flower has not opened which suggests it has already self-pollinated

Hard to toelk if this is the same as the leaf is only 5 mm off the ground

Not often does the photographer get a still enough day to get a good photo of these without a tripod

Hiding under the undergrowth on the continued walk - budding greenhood

Walked back to where I saw common wasp orchid last time to get a flower for the day. One more open this side

Front on

Choglottis diphylla - common wasp orchid

Leaf photo to confirm ID

Looked behind the colony and then across the track. This is the new find of the day on the other side of the track - 5 plants and one flower

My guidebook describes these as widespread but not common. Count me lucky

Short ride and a good walk to find some orchids and one in a new spot

Oh wow that looks delicious. I always love a good prime rib done slowly as a special treat.

Also fantastic to see the new buds and so many orchids. We are JUST starting to see colour poking up through the ground now. Up to 25 celcius this week so there should becan explosion soon.
