Garigal NP Hyacinth Orchids : January 19 2023
Rained a fair bit during the night and a wet morning. Cannot grumble as the garden could do with some rain. The summer might well be the coolest since records began but the plants do need rain. A wet day is the perfect way to get IM stuff done.

Had an idea for dinner that took me shopping close to a slice of bush to explore for ant orchids - fish for dinner and a walk in Garigal NP
First orchid photo for the day is a bonnet orchid just closing up shop. I never know whether I will see another in a walk
Hyacinth orchid on the way down the hill - not seen these this high up on this side of the track
Last of the Christmas bells not far off a month away from Christmas
Did find bonnet orchids open - cryptostylis erecta - just a few
Track view - drops away from the level parts of the suburb down to the creek below - about 200 metres below
Walked to this upper cross track and headed back - chose not to walk to the track below as I knew the ant orchids were above this track. Never did find them - too much bark shed
Pine leaf geebung
One lone hyacinth orchid on the way back up the hill. Only one flower left - something chomped the others off.
The eucalyptus trees shed their bark when they become stressed - the orchids I was looking for are hidden below the shredded bark
Large tongue orchid in a known spot - from the underside showing the veins
Side on - cryptostylis subulata
And from the front - last flower with the ones below folding away to bud
This is a lovely slice of bush going from 200 metres to creek level in a short stretch - good for head clearing
Dinner idea formed in the fish shop - a night of pans
NZ sole, Swiss rősti, bok choy, mash for the missus.
Sole was the highlight - dust of flour (GF) and cooked in butter and a little olive oil 3 minutes a side
Challenging night in markets. Was exercised early on sold puts to buy ENGI.PA and ELV. Broker sold ACA.PA, KAP.IL, SAN.MC to raise margin. I sold ESTX50 options, WPP.L to get some leeway. New credit spreads in Europe ACA.PA, CBK.DE, CS.PA, DBK.DE in other portfolios.
