Day 14 Broulee to Mollymook - Into the Lakes : October 28 2022
Today's ride has a few opportunities to take shorter routes. Broad plan is to follow the beaches around to Batemans Bay before rejoining Princes Highway. Was tempted to take the short cuts but there are beaches to be seen
Selfie at McKenzies Beach. Stopped at Tomakin supermarket to get electrolytes - forgot the day before. I have ridden this road a few times but have sure forgotten how hilly it is. Lots of short sharp hills.
Was riding bike path through Malua Bay with path looking like it had ended. Hammering down a hill looking for the path on the left - hit a pothole full tilt. Sore wrist - luckily the tyre held. Good thing I pumped it up yesterday
Photo back down the big hill out of Surf Beach. A few years ago we shared an apartment right here - nice quiet spot. Up and around over the hill onto the Clyde River side
River view looking out to sea
Across the estuary from Batehaven. We camped here once and I fished from this beach
View up to Cassidy Beach. Bike path all the way into town starts about here.
Pop over the ridge and get full view up the river of the new bridge. This was a lift bridge - now a big arch big enough to allow yachts underneath
Stopped for coffee at a cafe next to the fishing co-op with a view of the mooring for the Clyde River cruise boat
View from the bridge back down the river through town. Foreshore has been upgraded a bit since last visit
First road sign after crossing the river - 60 something kms to go. The hilly bit is behind with every hill going ahead low and short. Stopped at South Durras turnoff to buy a snack and top up with water. Last time we camped down this road
Passed the city boundary for Shoalhaven - into home territory but still got 120 kms to go.
Road goes back from farmland to National Park and State Forest
Coffee stop at East Lynne Cafe. It has a mini motorcycle museum with a small collection of interesting stuff including an old Indian Scout and this bicycle - looks like BSA
Route drops down to a series of lakes
Lake Tabourie with its own bike path
Lake Tabourie shows signs of the big rains
Burrill Lake looks a little less flood driven
Bike path alongside the new bridge and then the climb up to Ulladulla
Up and over the hill and down to the harbour - traffic was busy
View back to the harbour buildings
And out to harbour entrance. Not far from Ulladulla into the town of Mollymook. Found my motel - showered - cycled down the length of Mollymook Beach - looking back to golf club
Was not prepared to cycle to the point to have a beer at Rick Stein restaurant- Bannisters
It is somewhere on that point. Went back to Golf Club instead. It was busy. Was told the bistro was fully booked but I could get dinner if I found a seat in the lounge. I saw a high table with one bloke - asked if I could tag on.
Turned into a great discussion about all sorts of topics. He texts his wife to tell her to come down - someone to meet. We had a great chat too. Dinner was good
Good news is I now have a place to stay on Mollymook. We hit it off.
Front half of the ride was hilly but the back part was more downs than ups.
One more day to go
