First Lady Finger Orchid for the Season : August 13 2022

We headed up to Hunter Valley to prepare for the next open house. Got there with not quite two hours to go. Cleaned down all the internal walls that are showing signs of condensation running down the walls - ac on hot days. We did the shopping while inspection was on. After that I drove to Werakata SCA to look for orchids

These purple daisies were here two weeks ago. They tell me the time is right for lady fingers orchids

Did find orchid leaves - probably bearded orchids

On this one the flower spike is emerging - lighter green two inches tall. Walked almost down to the creek which is further than before. No luck

Love the way the mushroom envelopes the twig

Disappointing to see so many of these - fireweed which thrives in the dry seasons - now all over the valley. Each seed head produces 3,000 seeds. Before long it will be the only flower around.

A few pea flowers

Rainbow over the track had me thinking of going home - raining . Decided to walk above the trail without following paths to find at least one orchid

Saw this one bud. Hard to see a leaf in the thick grass - it is an orchid

A different style of pea flower. Followed a trail bike trail for a while. They are never good for orchids as they get carved out of thick bush. Orchids prefer more open places. Cut back to the fire trail on a small wallaby track and saw the flash of pink

Lady fingers orchid - caladenia catenata - standing in the wallaby track. The shape tells me the bud I saw earlier was one of these

Headed back to the house. Used the last half hour of daylight to fix the driveway which has a few big dips full of water. Laid a mix of ash and stones recovered from wash away onto the driveway. The ash will set hard and with the stone will be like concrete. Tomorrow I will lay.more stone over the top.

Looks like we will get another contract of sale out. Could be good as that gives more than one buyer and I am not happy with the one we have - he will be hard work.
