Francuska artystka ukrywająca się pod pseudonimem Arkane jest autorką murala "La Liberation de Mons" w Maisieres przy głównej drodze prowadzącej z Mons do kwatery NATO. Praca powstała we wrześniu dla upamiętnienia 80 rocznicy wyzwolenia Mons spod okupacji niemieckiej. Wielokrotnie mijałem ją w drodze do pracy, ale dopiero wczoraj miałem okazję bliżej jej się przyjrzeć z bliska. Mural jest dość nietypowy, bo namalowano go na dwóch ścianach budynku ze stopniowym dachem, przedstawia amerykańskiego żołnierza i dwoje dzieci siedzących na korpusie pierwszego czołgu, który wjechał do Mons.

[ENG] A French artist hiding under the pseudonym Arkane is the author of the mural ‘La Liberation de Mons’ in Maisieres on the main road leading from Mons to the NATO headquarters. The work was created in September to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Mons from German occupation. I have passed it many times on my way to work, but it was only yesterday that I had the opportunity to take a closer look at it up close. The mural is quite unusual, as it was painted on two walls of a building with a stepped roof, and depicts an American soldier and two children sitting on the body of the first tank to enter Mons.

At the end of the 20th century, a group of enthusiasts undertook an attempt to restore the tank, then the idea of the ‘Tanks in Town’ military vehicle rally, which takes place every year on the last weekend of August, was born. For many years M5 Stuart ‘Fish N Chips’ with side number 3047787 drove at the head of a column of historic vehicles, a few years ago it was placed on a plinth in front of the Mons. Memorial Museum.
