Wyjątkowo niechętnie pojechałem wczoraj do Brukseli odwieźć córkę, ale obiecałem jej to ponad tydzień wcześniej. Jak zwykle przy okazji, że podróżowała samochodem, a nie pociągiem, to mogła zabrać więcej rzeczy. Co w tych pakunkach miała, to wiedzą tylko córka i żona, która zwykle kupuje różne produkty z myślą o tym, żeby przekazać córce. Niechęć do wczorajszej podróży wynikała z tego, że wieczorem szedłem do pracy, musiałem, więc wrócić odpowiednio wcześniej do Mons.

[ENG] I was very reluctant to go to Brussels yesterday to see my daughter, but I had promised her to do so over a week before. As usual, as she was travelling by car and not by train, she could have taken more things with her. Only my daughter and my wife know what was in the parcels, and she usually buys different products with the intention of giving them to her daughter. My reluctance to travel yesterday was because I had to go to work in the evening, so I had to get back to Mons early.

Mimo tego, że była to sobota, to ruch w Brukseli był minimalny, dużo gorzej było na autostradzie. Odstawiliśmy córkę na stancję, pomogliśmy jej wtargać bagaże na trzecie piętro, a później poszliśmy na wspólny lunch. Po lunchu córka wróciła do siebie, a my poszliśmy na krótki spacer po Etterbeek — jednej z dzielnic Brukseli. Co prawda Etterbeek jest z dala do największych atrakcji turystycznych, ale zwykle to jest bez znaczenia, wszędzie widać turystów i mieszkańców. Wczoraj było inaczej, miasto wyglądało na opuszczone. Podejrzewam, że przyczyną był upał, a ponadto trwają wakacje i wielu brukselczyków wyjechało z miasta na wypoczynek.

[ENG] Even though it was Saturday, there was very little traffic in Brussels and even worse on the motorway. We dropped our daughter off at her rooming house, helped her carry her luggage up to the third floor and then went out for lunch together. After lunch my daughter went back to her flat and we went for a short walk in Etterbeek, one of the districts of Brussels. It's true that Etterbeek is far from the main tourist attractions, but usually that doesn't matter, you can see tourists and locals everywhere. Yesterday was different, the town looked deserted. I guess it was because of the heat, but it was also a holiday and many Brussels residents had left the city to rest.

Spacerując uliczkami Etterbeek dojrzeliśmy na końcu jednej z nich kościół, poszliśmy w tamtym kierunku, okazało się, że jest to kościół świętego Jana Berchmans. Ciekawa budowla z początku XX wieku. Bardzo ascetyczne wnętrze, piękne witraża. Kościół zbudowany jest na planie krzyża łacińskiego z centralną nawą i dwiema nawami bocznymi, przeciętymi małym transeptem. Nad kolumnami nawy zawieszono sześć posągów świętych Towarzystwa Jezusowego, po trzech na każdej ze stron. Witraże zostały wykonane przez warsztat Camille'a Ganton-Defoin w Gandawie. Przedstawiają ważne wydarzenia z życia Jezusa Chrystusa. Rozeta transeptu po prawej stronie poświęcona jest Belgii ze świętym Józefem, patronem Belgii, otoczonym przez belgijskich świętych lub świętych czczonych w różnych belgijskich miastach.

[ENG] Walking through the streets of Etterbeek, we noticed a church at the end of one of them, we went in that direction, it turned out to be the church of St. John Berchmans. An interesting building from the beginning of the 20th century. Very ascetic interior, beautiful stained glass windows. The church has a Latin cross floor plan with a central nave and two side naves intersected by a small transept. Six statues of saints of the Society of Jesus hang above the columns of the nave, three on each side. The stained glass windows were made by the workshop of Camille Ganton-Defoin in Ghent. They depict important events in the life of Jesus Christ. The transept rose window on the right is dedicated to Belgium with St Joseph, the patron saint of Belgium, surrounded by Belgian saints or saints venerated in various Belgian cities.

Wracając do miejsca, gdzie zaparkowaliśmy samochód przechodziliśmy przez niewielki park du Roi Vainqueur, jak w każdym parku w Brukseli można tam spotkać ludzi szukających wytchnienia w cieniu drzew lub opalających się na trawie, zależy co kto lubi.

[ENG] Returning to where we had parked the car, we walked through the small park du Roi Vainqueur. As in every park in Brussels, you can see people relaxing in the shade of the trees or sunbathing on the grass.
