Wczoraj oficjalnie rozpocząłem majowy urlop, w zasadzie to miałem jeszcze zaległy urlop z poprzedniego roku, który dopiero teraz wykorzystuję. W dalsze podróże wyruszymy dopiero za parę dni, ale w ten weekend nie zamierzam próżnować. Na początek wypad do centrum Mons na lody i krótki spacer po mieście.

[ENG] Yesterday was the official start of my May holiday, actually I still had some holiday left over from last year which I am just now using up. We won't be leaving for another trip for a few days, but I don't intend to be lazy this weekend. First, a trip to the centre of Mons for an ice cream and a short walk around the town.

The square is dominated by the carousels that appeared there a few days before Christmas. In a few days they will have to disappear, because the city is already preparing for Doudou, the popular name for a week of great joy and fun, culminating in a procession and a re-enactment of the fight between the dragon and Saint George. This takes place at the end of May/beginning of June.

Słyszeliście kiedykolwiek o wypożyczeniu rzeźby? Nie mam na myśli wypożyczenie rzeźby z jednego muzeum do drugiego, ale o rzeźbę, która jest symbolem miasta. [ENG] Have you ever heard of renting a sculpture? I don't mean borrowing a sculpture from one museum to another, but a sculpture that is a symbol of the city. Last year we were in Calais where we admired Auguste Rodin's work 'Les Bourgeois de Calais' in front of the town hall. A sculpture commemorating the inhabitants of Calais during the siege by the English, which lasted for over a year in the 14th century. Copies of this sculpture can be found in museums all over the world, a life-size copy is usually found in the Royal Museum in Mariemont, Belgium, and is currently in the gardens of the Town Hall in Mons. This is due to the exhibition dedicated to Auguste Rodin at the Museum Beaux-Arts de Mons.
