How Much Rubber For A Football Field?

avatar

Colorado College in Colorado SpringS, Colorado is in the process of building some new sports fields and my friends company got hired to unload the trailer holding all of the rubber underlayment.

This photo was after we already had half of it unloaded. The rolls are extremely heavy rubber and it came in on an 80' flat bed trailer. The guy driving this rig got this truck into the tightest place I have ever seen. Getting all this rubber to the jobsite was an amazing feat, believe me.

We unloaded them one by one with the skid steer which was a slow moving task but it went really smooth.

It's crazy that we all go to games, fields, stadiums and never really think about what it looked like before we were sitting there. This dirt lot is soon to he the place where blood sweat and tears drip in preparation for college Gameday!

That's amazing. That's a very long truck. I didn't see such long ones before.

I had nev r seen one that long either, I would have rather jumped off a bridge rather than drive that thing.

ya you are right. It needs special training to drive that one.

Man, that's a lot of freakin' rubber! I hope it wasn't too hot when they did all of that. We don't often think of all of the time and effort that goes into our entertainment. Here's to a job well done!

Never considered that. It's pretty insane when you think about it. Is that going to be turf or somehow natural growing over it?

Oh it will be turf, it’s gonna look beautiful. This school is right up against the mountains in downtown Colorado Springs.

Pretty cool. I sell 100% recyclcled plastic. Can liners and things like that. I have a client out that way. I also do sales for portable and permanent Ice Skating rinks and we are supposed to be doing one somewhere near there. It's coming up soon. I've never been out there.

I can imagine it must be a ton of work to make a whole entire football field.

I can remember my vice principal back in high school I quoted about how much an AstroTurf football field would cost for our football field just out of curiosity back in the mid 1990s. He found out it was a million dollars at the time. Obviously, our high school never bought it!

Wow that's a lot of rubber. Moving each roll one by one is quite the task. That's a good point that we dont ever think about what a place looks like before something is built on site. It would be cool if you took some progress photos along the way to see the before and after shots when it's all finished.

Bringing things into view really changes how things are made. I love that show. By the way, maybe you can flash another shot of the progress!
