Yeah, it was always brutal.
How's living in Spain these days? I always hear good things about it from the perspective of people from the United States wanting to move there.

Well, let's say that we are going through the same economic drift as the rest of the countries in the European Union, prices are going up, but not salaries, we also suffer from a great "brain drain", people from the country tend to emigrate to the US or countries with better opportunities while we receive many low-cost emigrants... the weather is good, however... IMO, it is not the best time to be in Europe but perhaps for an American it is 😉

I totally understand what you are saying. The same thing is happening here, in Canada, and in Australia. Inflation is out of control. Salaries and wages aren't keeping up. The job market for IT is honestly worse than ever right now in a lot of respects. They are starting to round up illegals that have committed crimes and are deporting them now that Trump is in. They are fortifying the Southern border. A lot of the damage has been done though.

Someone could live relatively cheap in the US if you live in the middle of nowhere or in some of the poorest areas but other than that I see more value over seas as long as I can keep the flow with crypto and all that.
