WAKE UP!

It was a sad day for both of my nieces teams yesterday as offense was hard to find. Let's take a look at my niece who is at university right now. Her Tiffin Dragons team was in the conference playoffs and just a day ago they had successfully defeated the #2 seed team in the conference.

After the loss to Tiffin on Wednesday, Hillsdale faced the #3 seed Ohio Dominican team at 10 AM yesterday morning. It was actually a really good game and OD outlasted Hillsdale to knock them out of the tournament.

Around 12:30 Tiffin had their next game against Cederville University. Unfortunately, they lost 1-2 which put them into the elimination bracket. Later that day they faced University of Findlay which is one of their local rivals given the proximity of the two schools.

They were ahead 1 to 0 going into the sixth inning, but Findlay scored three runs and ended up finishing the game with a win. It was unfortunate, but when your offense isn't hitting, it's hard to win games. I expect part of this can be credited to the opponents pitching as well, but I've seen Tiffin hit and they can string runs together nicely when things are going well.

That shutters the season for the Dragons. They finished the season at .538 which probably isn't where they would like to be, but it also isn't horrible either. They made it to the playoffs an they beat a Hillsdale team that has "haunted" them all season. I think that's a lot to be proud of.

I talked to my niece briefly last night and she said it has been rough. She is a fighter though and she will bounce back from this even better. I look forward to seeing what she accomplishes next year!

Later that night, her younger sister had a high school game against a team that I mentioned yesterday had a very similar record to the Varsity Shamrocks. In fact, the team last night had two more wins that the Rocks and after the night was over they would add another to that column. I think anyway.

You see, the game was quite close sitting at 1 to 0 in favor of the other team heading into the sixth inning when there happened to be a rumble of thunder. My wife and I had been commenting on the clouds during the stream the whole night. They looked like they had been painted on the screen by a watercolor brush.

Unfortunately, once the officials hear thunder they need to pause the game for 30 minutes. If they hear thunder in that 30 minute period, they have to start all over again for another 30 minutes. Eventually they just called the game. I'm not sure if that means it's a draw or they take the existing score and declare a winner, but either way, the pitching from the opponent was solid and our bats just weren't in sync last night.

Before the game was shuttered I think my niece went 0 for 3 which has to be eating away at her given how well she has been doing over the past two games before that one.

The weather isn't looking too friendly right now, but hopefully it clears up so we can watch her live in person this weekend. Fingers crossed!
