Too Many Choices!
I've gotta be honest with you, it has been a bit overwhelming with the Olympic games being on over the past several days. I feel like I just walked into a new whiskey bar and they have just about every brand/flavor I have ever imagined. What do you choose first?
As I said, it has been a bit similar with the Olympic games. With so many events happening at the same time, I have found it hard to focus in on one specific thing.
For example, the past two days I have had the USA network on in my office. They show a variety of events through the day. It never fails that my wife will message me on our preferred platform and ask me if I am watching some other event. Most specifically the women's gymnastics.
It happened just yesterday and I replied, nope, I am watching basketball or something like that. I had to quickly jump over to the other channel so I could see what she was talking about. It's a bit of a juggling act to be honest.
Now, I could have just kept watching what I was watching and waited until later that day to watch the gymnastics. Our national network has been running "primetime" Olympic programming that highlights the major events for the day, but I knew she wouldn't want to watch it again.
On the other hand, we could go the route that my inlaws took. They signed up for a subscription to the Peacock network so they can watch pretty much any event any time they want to. I used to have a Peacock subscription, but I got rid of it after a month as there was nothing else interesting worth paying for on it.
Perhaps I should have kept it...
I understand they have a lot of events that they have to cram into a short amount of time, but it feels like they could do a better job of spacing things out. At the very least, make them more accessible. With the proliferation of streaming media these days, missing one event to watch another event shouldn't be an issue.
I'm just glad the track and field events don't start until next week. I can't imagine trying to juggle my time between that, gymnastics, and all the other stuff that has been going on. I'm actually pretty excited that I finally understand the rules of rugby a bit more now. I wish there was more of that to watch in these games, but I think the men's and women's have finally finished up now.
For some reason I don't feel like it was this difficult during the Winter Olympics, but maybe my memory is failing me. Either that or I just don't care about those events as much as I do the summer ones. Who knows!
Looking back now, I am glad I switched over to the gymnastics so I could see the US team take the gold medal in the team event. It was pretty impressive to see Biles become the most decorated gymnast in US history.
