This is what she does...

After a game I mentioned yesterday that was a bit lackluster, my niece bounced back in a big way last night in her high school softball game against a local team. You might remember I mentioned that the team had a 1 to 0 victory the night before in their Wednesday game. It was thanks to a solo home run by one of my nieces teammates that gave them the win. That paired with some outstanding pitching by one of their starters.

Unfortunately, my niece didn't have the best game that night. I think she went 0 for 3 or something like that. As you can tell given the final score, runs were hard to come by for all of the ladies on the team.

Then last night it was like a switch was flipped. My niece went 3 for 4 and one of the hits was a home run that brought in two other runners. They claimed a 15 to 3 victory over the other team in five innings. It was a pretty impressive showing for the lady Shamrocks.

It's kind of funny because even the game the night before when her offense wasn't the greatest, she was still making some amazing defensive plays.

One of the things that really impresses me about my niece is just how fast she is. I think I have talked about this before, but she can get from first base to third base in no time. Likewise, it has to be a pretty solid hit right to a player for her to ever get out at first base. If a ground ball finds a gap, it's game over.

It's also not very uncommon for her to make it from first base all the way to home plate on a well hit ball by one of the ladies behind her in the batting order.

Last night she gave us a bit of a scare as she got caught in a standoff between second and third bases. Also know as a "pickle", if you have ever watched much baseball or softball, you probably know how these things usually turn out. I don't know how she did it, but she was somehow able to make it back to second base after a bit of going back and forth.

It was pretty amazing and I hope it comes across just how proud I am of her.

She has a double header tomorrow and then she is off until Monday. I'm really thankful to the parent who streams the games so that we can watch them all from four hours away here in Michigan. It definitely makes us feel closer and more involved with our niece.
