The Superbowl Is Set!
Unless you are about ten percent of the population in the Untied States, you are probably pretty disappointed with the way the NFL games turned out yesterday. More specifically, how one of the NFL games turned out yesterday. Once again, it has become pretty clear that Kansas City can't win a clutch game without the help of the officials. Sure, Buffalo did their best to hand it to them, but I think some respect should be given to the KC defense. They have showed up when they need to and the refs have given them that extra push when they need it.
I get that football is game of inches. I also get that officials don't always have the best vantage point and that camera angles aren't always where you need the. That being said, I think what bugs me the most about the fourth down call in the game yesterday is that the first official got it right, then another official who had no clear view of where the ball even was overturned it.
What happened to incontrovertible evidence? I guess that is probably a bit of a joke if you consider the whole officiating crew is on the take. Trust me, I want to believe that the NFL is still pristine, but I think we have seen enough examples in the past five years to negate that belief. As a Lions fan I am fully aware of how this goes.
I know it's easy to dwell on that one specific miscarriage of justice, but let's not forget there was another game on yesterday as well.
In the early game on Sunday, we got to watch the Philadelphia Eagles absolutely hammer the Washington Commanders. Just when Washington looked like they were going to make things close again, they turned over the ball and basically handed the game to Philly.
That's not to say Philly didn't deserve it. Saquon had a pretty amazing game and Hurts did his part to ensure victory. I have a couple thoughts after watching that game. First, where was this Commanders team the week they played the Lions. I think we could have won that game at least by attrition if we had faced this Commanders team. Yes, our defense still probably wouldn't have been able to stop them, but with so many offensive blunders, I think we would have been able to out-score them.
Especially if Goff would have been able to quit giving away the ball.
Saquon Barkley is just amazing. He actually reminds me a bit of Barry Sanders to be honest. He just finds each little hole and he exploits it big time. Gibbs from the Lions has been showing signs of that same greatness too. I still have Barkley on my post season fantasy league and I think he is going to do me well come Feb 9th or whatever it is.
So, the stage is set. Philly versus KC for the Superbowl.
I know who my money is going to be on, do you?

Quite possibly the only good thing about them making it.
