Soccerween Weekend!
First off, I just wanted to extend a hearty congratulations to the Los Angeles Dodgers. They only needed five games to handle the New York Yankees in the world series. It was a thrilling 6 to 5 victory in New York last night that earned them the title. We have a minor league park in the town where I grew up, and they are an affiliate or feeder team for the Dodgers.
While I have never been a Dodgers fan in the past, that hometown connection makes me quite happy that they were able to shut out the Yankees.
Well done!
This past weekend was filled with more than just professional sports. Besides watching the streams of my nieces fall softball games, we also traveled to a town near us to watch one of my other nieces play soccer with her team.
It was a big Halloween event at the fields, so there were an insane amount of people there. I'm not kidding, we had to park about 1/4 to 1/2 mile away from the fields just to be able to get a spot to watch the game. It was insane. All of the teams were dressed up for Halloween, so it was kind of cute. My niece had three games on Saturday, but we only attended one of them.
My niece plays goalie and obviously I am a bit biased, but she is amazing at it. I think it is funny because her gloves are so big. Almost as big as her head it seems. She did a great job and although she let the one slip by, she had a lot of really great saves.
My brother in law was pointing out at this age level most goals happen as a result of errant kicks, throw ins, or misplays by the goalie. It isn't like the kids are making some phenomenal shots. My niece loves playing this position and I look forward to watching her excel in the future.
Meanwhile, as I said, my other niece had some softball games this weekend. We have nice little set up in our living room using a cheap BeeLink mini computer loaded with Ubuntu Linux and the WayDroid emulator so we can launch the GameChanger Android application.
It works out quite well.
They started the morning with a 7 to 3 win over an Ohio Outlaws premier team. My niece even hit a home run in that game, so it was really awesome. I actually missed the home run because I was doing dishes, but I've seen her hit dozens at this point.
Their second game was a 2 - 2 tie against a Finesse team. This was a showcase not a tournament, so they didn't have a problem ending games on a tie.
Their first game on Sunday was another 3 - 3 tie with the Worth Prospects team. Then they had a 6 - 4 win against the Indiana Mustangs, and finally they ended the day with a 4 - 3 loss against Miami Valley Xpress. It was a really good weekend for the ladies and my niece was really happy with her performance.
On a fun side note, she posted a Tik Tok of her Lorax inspired Halloween costume this year and it is already up to 1.6 million views. Talk about nuts!
They have one more tournament down in Tennessee this weekend and then they are done for the season. My niece will be shifting into basketball mode and that means I will be covering those games as well.
It's that time of year!
