Preseason Excitement
It's been pretty crazy the past couple of weeks with preseason action going on in both the NFL and the college basketball world. Let's start with the biggest news first. If you are looking at the headlines after the weekend there is little doubt you are seeing something about Patrick Mahomes throwing a behind the back pass in the game against the Lions.
It's interesting that they choosing to latch onto that versus the actual outcome of the game. In case you missed it, the Lions once again beat the Superbowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. That's two games in a row that they bested what is supposed to be the best team in the country.
Kind of makes you think doesn't it?
That missed call against the Seahawks that left the Lions out of the playoffs last season is looking a lot more sus now isn't it?
Sure, it wasn't a pretty win by the Lions, but it was a win none the less.
I know I know, preseason doesn't really count for anything, but despite the loss last weekend to the Giants, I still think this bodes well for the Detroit Lions. They are primed to have a really great season. At this point the only thing I can see messing it up is Goff. If he goes back to his crappy play, then they might find themselves in a tight spot.
Although even when he totally sucked, they still found a way to eek out a few wins.
Who knows.
Meanwhile, the Michigan State Spartans Men's Basketball team is doing a tour of Spain and playing some exhibition games that are supposed to help them with their team building. I really hope it works. We need something to be excited about down in East Lansing and as I said in another post, Tom Izzo is needing a win pretty big if he doesn't want to go out on a sour note.
They played a Madrid all star team earlier last week and just squeaked past them 94 to 87. Valencia was a different story with the Spartans dominating 105 to 59.
The Spartans have one more game in Spain before they head home. I really hope this trip gives them the chance to become one cohesive unit. They also need key position players to step forward and claim those spots. There has been too much uncertainty in the past and we can' afford to have another season like that.
With only a couple weeks left before the NFL and College Football starts, I am already starting to get a bit excited. There is even a bit of autumn crispness in the air today despite that fact that it is only the middle of August.
