NFL Week 17 Recap: Lions deliver in the clutch

As I sit here and watch Alabama literally fumble their way around the field in their Reliaquest Bowl game against Michigan, I can't help but think of the Lions game last night. It's not that the Lions played horribly last night, but man they are just looking really bad on defense lately. In fact, I went to bed at halftime because I didn't think there was any way they were going to win the game.

Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning and I found that they had in fact won. More on that in a bit. What really bugs me though is just how good the other teams in the division are doing. Why couldn't Minnesota have a 7 win season like they did last year and Green Bay have a 9 win season. Of course the year that the Lions are dominating, it's less of a thing because Minnesota is also dominating and Green Bay was close on both of their heels.

It's typical Detroit luck to be honest. It drives me crazy to think that we might do everything so well this season and still fall short simply because of dumb luck. Oh sure, the Vikings are talented, but couldn't they have waited a couple of years to get there?

I've got a couple more photos of Snoop Dogg from his bowl game, so I am going to keep sharing those...

Let's get to the NFL scores from the weekend:

Kansas City beat Pittsburgh 29 to 10, Baltimore beat Houston 31 to 2, and Seattle beat Chicago in a miserable 6 to 3 yawn fest of a game. The Chargers beat the Patriots 40 to 7, Cincinnati beat Denver 30 to 24, and the Rams beat the Cardinals 13 to 9.

Jacksonville took down Tennessee 20 to 13, Tampa Bay pounded Carolina 48 to 14 and Philadelphia throttled Dallas 41 to 7.

The Giants put up a miraculous 45 points to Indianapolis's 33, Las Vegas beat New Orleans 25 to 10, and Buffalo pounded The Jets 40 to 14.

Miami took down Cleveland 20 to 3, Minnesota edged past the Packers 27 to 25 (you can't count on the Packers for anything), and Washington beat Atlanta in overtime 30 to 24.

Finally, we have the Lions who beat San Francisco 40 to 34 in a rematch of the conference championship last year. It's almost too bad that they couldn't have won that game last year, because I think the much healthier team back then would have had little issue beating the Kansas City Chiefs in last years Super Bowl.

As it sits now, they have a tough road ahead of them with a final home match up against Minnesota next weekend. If they win the game, they get the top seed in the NFC and they get home field advantage. If they lose, they become the first team in history to become a wildcard team with 14 wins.

I guess the same could be said for Minnesota if they lose, but honestly, screw Minnesota!
