NFL Week 12 Recap: The Lions are Red Hot!

Another weekend, another road win for the Lions. The fact that they are winning so much is impressive. The fact that they are doing it on the road is downright mind blowing. Trust me, I know this can't go on forever. As a long time Lions fan, we live our lives waiting for the other shoes to drop. Every week I tune in and think to myself, this will probably be the week they finally screw it all up.

We saw a little bit of that back when they played Tampa Bay earlier in the year. It's not unbelievable to expect it won't happen again. I just hope it isn't against the Vikings or the Packers.

Who am I kidding, I hope it doesn't happen at all, but they are the Lions...

It was a snowy Thursday night when Pittsburgh came into Cleveland and got handed a 24 to 19 loss. I'm actually a bit surprised that northern Ohio has gotten snow already and we haven't in my part of Michigan. I guess that just goes to show you the power of lake effect weather cells!

Minnesota had a tough overtime game against the Bears. Unfortunately, the Vikings were able to pull out the 30 to 27 overtime win. That keeps them right behind the Lions in the NFC North. The Detroit game in Indianapolis actually started a bit rocky. I didn't expect the defense to step up the way they did and hold the Colts to just two field goals. The colts were gaining some big yards against the Lions in some of the downs, but Detroit stopped them when it mattered.

They have a short week with their traditional Thanksgiving Day game just a couple of days away. Despite the holiday Lions fans have been traveling exceptionally well, so I expect Ford Field will be rocking. In fact, maybe teams have been complaining lately about Lions fans taking over their stadiums when the team comes into town to play. We've got a lot of pent up cheering to unleash!

Miami beat New England 34 to 15, and Tampa Bay gave the Giants another kick in the nuts 30 to 7. Somehow the Cowboys managed to pull out a win against Washington 34 to 26, and Kansas City rebounded from their first loss last weekend over Carolina 30 to 27. I think it shouldn't go unnoticed, the fact that Carolina was able to put so many points up on KC. Remember just a few weeks ago when the Panthers were the worst team in the league?

Tennessee took down Houston 32 to 27 in Houston, and Denver beat the Raiders 29 to 19. Meanwhile, Green Bay had a huge win over San Francisco 38 to 10, and Seattle beat Arizona 16 to 6. The 49ers definitely aren't looking like the high caliber team that they were last season. It actually has me a little nervous for the next time that the Lions and Green Bay face off.

Philadelphia beat the Rams 37 to 20, and finally last night the Harbaugh brothers battled it out with Baltimore beating the Chargers 30 to 23.

Buffalo still easily stands atop the AFC East after their bye this past weekend, while Pittsburgh and Baltimore and neck and neck in the AFC North. The AFC South sees Houston with a comfortable lead over Indianapolis, and Kansas City has a three game lead over LA in the AFC West.

Meanwhile in the NFC, Philly has a two game lead over Washington in the East, Detroit still has that one game lead over Minnesota in the North, Atlanta leads Tampa Bay by one game in the South, and Seattle and Arizona are all tied up in the West with the Rams and San Fransisco not far behind.

With Thanksgiving just two days away, we are in the home stretch now! I hope the Lions get an early clinch on the playoffs so they can relax a little bit before the end of December and January get here.

Remember just a few weeks ago when the Panthers were the worst team in the league?

They are now the 2nd worst team in the league that got a couple of lucky breaks. The Giants are the worst team in the league now, I don't think anyone will debate that.

I'm just hoping the Lions can manage to stay on form and not choke towards the end. I"m not being mean when I say that they kind of have a reputation for doing exactly that.

They do have a reputation for that, but a lot of that has been on account of the officials as well. I can think of at least two or three games that would have put them in the playoffs in different years if the officials hadn't stolen it from them. They definitely have the potential to implode, but I kind of feel like the tides are turning. The Lions are becoming the darlings that you best not mess with.
