NFL week 11 Recap: Indisputable!
Just like that after a big loss in New York and a big win in "The D", the Detroit Lions are the best team in the NFL. No question about it. No longer can Kansas City Chief fans point to their undefeated record when people say the Lions are the number 1 team. That's actually been happening for a while now. Despite the Chiefs 10-0 start to the season, and the Lions early season loss to Tampa Bay, the polls have been pretty consistent in naming the Lions the number 1 team in the league.
I'll talk about the Lions more in a little bit though.
Things started off this week on Thursday with Philadelphia beating Washington 26 to 18. It was a bit weird to see the Lions playing the 1 PM slot this week. With their recent success, us fans have gotten used to seeing them in more prime time spots on Sunday and Monday night. I'm not complaining though, it was nice to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon on the couch watching the Lions do what they do.
Let's talk about that Green Bay/Chicago game first though. I really fee like Chicago was robbed on this one. The officials basically did everything but hand the win to Green Bay. It was absolutely shameful. There really needs to be some kind of house cleaning with the officials. There is clear bias for and against certain teams. I'm just thankful the Lions seem to have moved out of that latter category!
After the Lions game was well in hand, I flipped over to multi-view on YouTube TV so I could watch the rest of the Packers/Bears game. Speaking of the Lions, they had a huge 52 to 6 win over Jacksonville. Quite the change from the unexpectedly close game they had against Houston last weekend.
I think a lot of respect should go to the offensive line for the Lions. They did a great job pushing when there needed to be pushing and stopping when people needed to be stopped. I think it should also be pointed out that one of the running backs got close to 22 MPH on one of his touch down runs. How nuts is that?
Minnesota beat Tennessee to continue the fight for second place in the NFC North. They now sit one game above Green Bay, but way below Detroit.
Miami beat Las Vegas 34 to 19, and Los Angeles beat The Patriots 28 to 22. New Orleans bounced back from some horrible weeks to beat Cleveland 35 to 14, and Indianapolis had a close game against The Jets, but came out on top 28 to 27.
I did get a chance to see the end of the Pittsburgh/Baltimore game, it was quite good and the Steelers came out on top 18 to 16. Denver slapped down Atlanta 38 to 6 and Seattle beat San Francisco 20 to 17. As I said, the Buffalo Bills handed Kansas City their first loss of the season 30 to 21, and Los Angeles took down Cincinnati 34 to 27.
Finally, in Monday Night Football, Houston beat Dallas 34 to 10. I'm not a fan of Dallas, but it is pretty sad just how horrible they have become. I think all those fair weather fans are probably flocking to the Lions now as America's Team.
As far as the rankings, Buffalo safely sits atop the AFC East, Pittsburgh is the big dog in the AFC Central with Baltimore close behind. Houston has a two game lead in the AFC South, and Kansas City has a two game lead in the AFC West.
In the NFC, Philadelphia sits atop the NFC East with Washington close behind. Detroit has the NFC North in check with Minnesota close behind. Atlanta has a two game lead in the NFC South, and Arizona is leading the NFC West with the Rams close behind.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out. I'd love to see Detroit clinch a spot in the playoffs sooner rather than later.
