NCAA Week 11 and NFL Week 10 Football Recap: Lions can't be kept down!
As I said last week, it's that time of year where it is kind of hard to know what to cover for these Monday posts. There is so much sport happening over the weekend that it would honestly take several posts to get all caught up. I have to spread them out through the week.
I think since college basketball is back in the swing of things, I am going to roll this post together with my NFL post. I think that is the way I have always done it in the past.
As you can see from the opening photo, I got to go watch my nephew play basketball with his rec league team. It's actually sponsored by the school district and all of the kids will eventually be playing on the same team one day if they make the cut and stick with it.
It was kind of a boring weekend as far as college football goes. At least in the top 25 (with a few exceptions). I actually found myself watching some unranked games and those were much more exciting than many of the "top tier" games.
Probably the biggest upset of the weekend was Georgia Tech taking down number 4 Miami and ruining their undefeated season. The final score was 28 to 23, well done Yellow Jackets!
Number 2 Ohio State crushed Purdue, and number 5 Texas also crushed Florida. (23) Clemson didn't get upset by Virginia Tech like I thought they would, but Kansas did upset (17) Iowa State 45 to 36. The (8) Indiana versus Michigan game was a lot closer than I expected it would be, but Indiana came away with the 20 to 15 victory.
(3) Georgia fell to (16) Ole Miss 28 to 10. I told you that was going to be a good game didn't I? Much better than the (11) Alabama vs (15) LSU game that ended up being a 42 to 13 route of the Tigers. I was totally off on that one!
Virginia upset (18) Pittsburgh 24 to 19 in the final upset of the weekend. How about that (9)BYU vs. Utah game? That's another one I told you was going to be good. I had money on Utah winning and they fell short by only one point. The final score was 22 to 21 BYU for the Cougars to remain undefeated.
Michigan State was off for the weekend, but the most exciting football game I watched on Saturday was still in the Big 10. that Minnesota versus Rutgers game was really good and Rutgers came away with the 26 to 19 victory.
On the NFL side of things, it was another great weekend for the Lions. We still have the Dolphins/Chargers tonight, but I can touch on that quickly in my post tomorrow.
First, I just want to say I feel really badly for the folks in Germany. While they did get an exciting game on Sunday, it wasn't like they were watching two top tier teams play. With both teams have a record of 2-7, the Giants/Panthers match up left a lot to be desired. Like I said, it was a good game that went into overtime and somehow despite being the butt of many jokes, the Carolina Panthers have managed to eek out three wins so far this season.
Could it be they are turning things around?
New England crushed Chicago in a game that had major implications for my fantasy team. More about that later this week...
Buffalo beat Indianapolis and Kansas City manage to steal a win from Denver. The Saints found a bit of life and took down Atlanta 20 to 17, while San Francisco also had a three point win over Tampa Bay 23 to 20.
Pittsburgh had a close game against the Washington Commanders but snatched a 28 to 27 victory from them. Those extra points are so important!
Minnesota recover from a couple of bad weeks with a 12 to 7 win over Jacksonville, and Los Angeles beat Tennessee 27 to 17.
Philadelphia crush anything that is still left of the Dallas Cowboys 34 to 6, and Arizona turned up the heat on New York beating the Jets 31 to 6.
Finally, we have the Lions, they snatched a 26 to 23 win from Houston after a horrible showing by quarterback Goff. He threw something like 5 interceptions. Talk about a bad night. It was the leg of the kicker Bates that sealed the deal for the Lions.
I didn't stay up to watch it, but I caught the highlights this morning. That field goals just squeaked in there!
I almost liked it better when the Lions sucked and they played at 1 in the afternoon on Sunday.
Okay, I take that back, but these 8:30 on a school night games are killing me!
