NCAA Football Week 9 Recap: Nice Try Sparty...
It's pretty safe to say I am a bit disappointed by the outcome of the Michigan/Michigan State game this past weekend. It certainly seemed like the scales were tipped in the Spartans favor for the weekend. About the only thing they had going against them was the fact that the game was at Michigan.
Then the defense just seemed to walk away during the second half of the game. I knew it was over fairly quickly and I actually ended up going to bed early. What could have been a really great win for them ended up being another year of bragging rights for those insufferable maize and blue fans in the state.
With a final score of 17 to 24, the opportunities were there. Michigan State was pretty obviously the better team for most of the game. I don't really know what else to say about it at this point.
I'm actually pretty happy I didn't put any bets down on the games this past weekend. Upsets were virtually non existent and since that is what I usually bet on, I would have been hurting for sure. There was actually a point during the day on Saturday where I couldn't find a single game to watch because all of them were so dang lopsided it was no question who was going to win.
Of course, there were a few small exceptions. You will see what I mean in just a second.
#18 Pitt beat Syracuse 41 to 13, #15 Boise State won against UNLV 29 to 24, and #13 Indiana remains undefeated beating Washington 31 to 17.
#4 Ohio State's win over Nebraska 21 to 17 was actually a lot closer than I expected. Hats off to the Cornhuskers for that. I have to admit, I am a little proud of them after that showing on Saturday.
#19 Ole Miss beat Oklahoma 26 to 14, and #8 Notre Dame handed Navy their first loss of the season in a big way 51 to 14. #1 Oregon made quick work of #24 Illinois 38 to 9, and #14 Alabama crushed #25 Missouri 34 to 0.
#37 BYU continues to experience a lot of success beating UCF 24 to 37. That's probably one of the games I would have bet for the underdog on, so I am glad I didn't.
#6 Texas with the 27 to 24 win over Vanderbilt is probably one of the closest games we had this weekend. #5 Miami crushed Florida State 36 to 14, and #3 Penn State had little trouble with Wisconsin besting them 28 to 13.
#10 Texas A&M took down #16 LSU 38 to 23, and #20 SMU needed overtime to beat Duke 28 to 27. Finally, #17 Kansas State beat Kansas 29 to 27.
As you can see, there were some close games, but for the most part they were blow out wins by the ranked team.
Be sure to check back on Friday when I highlight some of the must watch games coming at you this weekend!

I was stunned they kept it this close as well. There were points that I thought they might actually pull off a W
I thought sure it was going to be an OSU steamroll, so I am really happy with how it turned out. Their off season scouting stock has to be trending up at this point. If they can squeak into a decent holiday bowl and win it, there might be some really good things ahead for Nebraska.
