NCAA Football Week 8 Recap

Football.png

It was a pretty quiet week as far as I am concerned in college football. Mostly for the fact that the two teams from Michigan I regularly keep track of had the weekend off. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but the fact that Michigan State and Michigan both had the weekend off leading up to their head to head contest next weekend should tell you just how important it is.

Don't beat the messenger, but I honestly don't have a lot of hope for this game. Michigan and Michigan State both tend to play up to this game. It is a big deal inside the state. The fact that Michigan State has been doing so horrible this season could have zero impact on the game this weekend.

Then again, I would be silly to think they honestly have a chance. U of M has just been playing a different level of football this season. The fact that the game is going to take place at the Big House doesn't help either. 3-4 versus 7-0. What do you think is going to happen....

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I got to watch more college football than I had planned this past weekend. @mrsbozz came down with a nasty ear infection and that combined with some other factors kept us from camping this past weekend.

I watched pretty much all of the Ohio State/Iowa game. Okay, I will admit, I dozed off from time to time. It was kind of a boring first half, but then in the second half OSU just pretty much opened things up. There was zero chance.

Everyone is talking about how big the Ohio State/Penn State game is going to be next weekend, but I honestly think the marquee game of this season is going to be Ohio State/Michigan. That should be a great top 5 match-up baring a Sparty win next weekend and subsequent ranking drop for the Wolverines. Vice versa with Ohio State and Penn State. I just don't see it happening though.

That Clemson/Syracuse game was a heartbreaker. Syracuse had them on the ropes most of the game. Cost me $2 on a bet that I will talk about later in the week. I was really disappointed to see The Tigers pull that one out.

I tell you what, Tennessee is looking pretty hot right now. It is going to be interesting to see how they handle the rest of the season. We had some good conversations in the comments about them last week. Feel free to go back and check it out!

That Texas/Oklahoma State game was pretty good too. The #11 Cowboys came out on top over the Longhorns 41 to 34.

During the Ohio State/Iowa game they were hyping the Oregon/UCLA game because it was being broadcast next. I kind of blew it off and didn't really pay attention, but it looks like it was a really good game. #10 Oregon came out on top over #9 UCLA 45 to 30.

In other big upsets, LSU took down #7 Ole Miss 45 to 20. Wow!

BYU lost to Liberty... I honestly don't even know what to say there. Sorry Cougar fans. That one has to hurt.

Alabama came off their huge loss to Tennessee last week and laid the smack down on Mississippi State 30 to 6.

Honestly, that was the top action for the week. There were some really close games outside the top 25. If you are a local fan, you might be pretty excited about those, but for the most part they were relatively inconsequential.

There should be a lot to talk about next weekend. Check back and see how happy, sad, or indifferent I am.

A great scenario right now is Georgia beating Tennessee and Georgia beating Alabama in the SEC championship. That should push Bama out of the Playoff.

BYU is meh. They can hope for an 8-5 season, at best. Probably end it closer to 7-6 or 6-7.

Pac-12 will have no Playoff contenders.

TCU will probably come out on the top in the Big 12.

Clemson doesn't seem as strong of a contender this year.

I'm betting the Playoff will be 2 SEC teams, 1 Big Ten, and 1 Big 12/ACC team.

If U of M and Ohio State weren't going head to head that could have a big impact on the playoffs. They are though, so that should shake one of them out. A playoff without Alabama would be awesome, but you know the NCAA will probably never allow it.

If the thing with Tennessee plays out with Georgia, then then the likelihood of them not being in increases.

Many things can happen. If TCU and Clemson win out, there may not be Bama either, assuming Georgia or Tennessee wins SEC.

I don't know if Clemson can do it. Like you said, they aren't looking that good. There is still a bit of season to go. I am not going to hold my breath on any of it!

MSU doesn't stand a chance vs Mich. I saw the Ohio State/ Penn State match up for next week.. I'll be a Nittany Lions fan next week. I hate Ohio.. not just the University. The entire state..

I have come to enjoy the state. Columbus is a fun town with a great food scene if you can look past all the annoying Ohio State fans. My wife and I spend a bit of time down there at our inlaws. They are from Michigan and State fans like us, so it doesn't get awkward! I have a feeling they don't stand a chance, but I have thought that in the past too and somehow they rise to the occasion. This game is different.
