NCAA Football Week 7: Trouble at the Top!
I'm a bit sad to say that this was the last weekend I will spend watching football outside my trailer with a roaring fire next to me at the campsite. If it wasn't starting to get so cold out, I might be a lot more sad about it. The fact is, we are starting to get to that point in Michigan where fun idyllic fall is heading out and sloppy fall is heading in.
I had a lot going on once @mrsbozz and I got back from a little outing in Traverse City, MI that I will be writing about on my main account at some point. My niece was playing softball down in Columbus, OH, so I was streaming that, the Tigers were in game 5 of the playoffs at 1:00 PM, and then of course there was a slew of college football on.
Unfortunately, the Tigers lost game 5 and they are out of the playoffs now. I'm kind of sad about that, because I was looking forward to watching some post season baseball this year. With the Tigers out, I likely will focus my time elsewhere.
My niece did pretty good and I will be posting more about that another day.
That just leaves us college football...
The Sun Devils at Arizona State had a nice upset victory over Utah 27 to 19 which knocked the Utes out of the top 25. #10 Clemson beat Wake Forest as predicted 49 to 14, and #7 Alabama had a close game against South Carolina 27 to 25.
#19 Missouri beat UMass 45 to 3 (ouch), and #20 Pittsburgh beat California 17 to 15. #1 Texas had zero issues with Oklahoma beating them 34 to 3. I actually expected the Sooners to do a little better in that game. #22 Illinois beat Purdue 50 to 49 in overtime. I kind of wish I had watched that game after seeing the score!
I did watch the #3 Penn State USC game and I have to say that was a heck of a game. The overtime alone was pretty insane. I can't even put into words just how good this game was. I thought sure Penn State was going to roll over the Trojans, but they put up a heck of a fight.
#12 Notre Dame destroyed Stanford 49 to 7. Stanford went up 7 to 0 early in the game but unfortunately, those were the only points they would score as you can see.
#13 BYU continues to be undefeated after a nice 41 to 19 win over Arizona. I have little doubt there are many people in Utah feeling a little slighted that the Cougars are still ranked so low.
#5 Georgia took down Mississippi State 41 to 31, and #11 Tennessee needed overtime to beat Florida 23 to 17.
Up to this point, the games have pretty much went the way I expected with the exception of that Penn State/USC game. Then night time came and the fireworks really started.
#4 Ohio State dropped two spots with their loss to #2 Oregon who jumped up one spot from the number three position. The final score was 32 to 31 not for lack of the Buckeyes trying. It came right down to the wire.
Speaking of right down to the wire, #8 LSU beat #18 Ole Miss 29 to 26 in overtime. I told you that was going to be a good game didn't I?
#9 Iowa State took down West Virginia 28 to 16, and #17 Kansas State beat Colorado 31 to 28. Finally, #15 Boise State beat Hawai'i 28 to 7.
This was one of the rare weeks that I actually made some money betting. I put some parlays out that ended up hitting and winning me some funds. I also cashed some bets out early before they went south. I turned a $2 bet into $10 that if I had rode it out would have paid me nothing.
Not a bad weekend at all!

I guess my non-belief in Texas has been settled. They looked completely unstoppable in that game.
They are looking really good this season. Definitely have deserved their ranking unlike some other teams out there...
