NCAA Football Week 13 Recap: Sometimes it isn't pretty
I'll be the first to admit that I was pretty nervous going into this past weekend. The Michigan State Spartans were hurting for a win and despite the horrible record that Purdue was sitting on, I knew it wasn't going to be an easy game for the Spartans.
What should have been a cupcake game for MSU, ended up being a knock down drag out fight. Actually, I'm a little ashamed to say that I went to bed before the game was even over. It was looking like State was going to do their best job of pissing the game away and I just couldn't stand to watch that happen.
I was happy to see the next morning that they came away with a 24 to 17 victory. They need one more win to become bowl eligible, but that is likely going to be a tough order when they roll into Rutgers next weekend.
Despite the lackluster game by the Spartans on Friday night, Saturday actually ended up being a really good day for football. There were a lot of really good games on and some of them were quite unexpected for me.
(25) Illinois had a close 38 to 31 victory over Rutgers. Meanwhile, also in the Big 10, the game between (2) Ohio State and (5) Indiana didn't go quite the way that I expected. Indiana was actually holding their own really well in the first half. It looked like they might actually have a chance against the Buckeyes.
Then the second half started and Ohio State basically ran away with the game 38 to 15. I switched over to the (9) Ole Miss versus Florida game and that ended up being a lot better game. Florida got the huge upset win 24 to 17 after a slew of interceptions from the Ole Miss QB.
In other big upset news, Kansas took down (16) Colorado 37 to 21. Probably the two best games I watched this weekend were the (4) Penn State/Minnesota game where Penn State won by the slim margin of 26 to 25. Also, the Wisconsin/Nebraska game was a really fun game to watch. Congrats to the Cornhuskers for snagging he big win. Wisconsin didn't look anything like the team that played against Oregon last week.
The most WTF moment from the weekend comes from the end of the (21) Arizona State vs. (14) BYU game. ASU basically had the game on lock, but they left 1 second on the clock. Fans stormed the field, but they had to be cleared off before they could finish the game. The 28 to 23 upset win by Arizona State will be talked about for a while!
In other big upsets, (7) Alabama got their butts handed to them by Oklahoma 24 to 3, and Auburn beat (15) Texas A&M in four overtimes 43 to 41. With (6) Notre Dame beating (19) Army, Oregon remains the only undefeated team left in the top 25.
We have one more week of college football before the playoffs and bowl season gets started. There are quite a few teams who are still fighting for bowl eligibility, so next week is going to be very important in the college football landscape!

was pleased with the Nebraska game. I wasn't expecting that after several weeks of mediocrity. I thought that Indiana did really well, the whole sports world was predicting an absolute slaughter, stating that they had a weak schedule (which is kind of true) but to hold OSU to just that many points kind of made them look strong in my opinion. I do think that it puts a hush on them being the best team in the NCAA though.
That was definitely a good game for Nebraska. It would be nice to see them get to a bowl game this year. I was definitely shocked by the first half of the Indiana game. They did well and while they did have a pretty light schedule this season, they deserve to be in a top tier bowl game if not the playoffs.
they better make the playoffs otherwise the season record is meaningless and we may as well just go back to the political shit-show that was the coaches/AP poll.
They still have one game left, we will see how that goes, plus the conference championship. We all know that the powers that be would be happy with an all SEC playoff if they could get away with it.
