Maginifcient May

With the introduction of the Spring football leagues, some might argue that May is the greatest time of the year for sports. We have the NBA and NHL playoffs happening, baseball is getting geared up for a long summer, and universities/high schools across the country are preparing for their respective tournaments.

This used to be a really exciting time of year in Michigan. The Pistons weren't horrible, the Red Wings were pretty much always in the playoffs, and the Tigers had a young Miguel Cabrerra on their roster to draw in the crowds.

I don't watch much professional basketball anymore. It all feels fake to me. The lack of defense paired with the officiating controversy from about a decade ago turned me off. I've never come back. I haven't watched hockey in forever either. The Red Wings kind of disintegrated and like a fickle fan, so did my interest.

I watched my first Tigers game the other day, but sadly it might be the only one this year since YouTube TV still doesn't provide Fox Sports Detroit. I was lucky enough that the game was on Fox Sports One. How ridiculous that we can get the one channel, but not the other right?

Thankfully, I have my nieces and nephews sporting events to fill the void. It's been pretty rare over the last couple of months that @mrsbozz and I haven't had a streaming softball game to watch. Tack on the occasions that we have driven down and watched them in person and it's still been a pretty great May.

Probably one of the best things Detroit has going for it so far this year is the fact that we got to host the NFL Draft. The local news was showing video coverage of the event the other week and I honestly can't remember ever seeing so many people in one area of Detroit at the same time. Even when the arenas are packed, I don't think there is that many people.

It was impressive. Also a quite good look for Detroit. The city itself gets a bit of a bad reputation, but it's actually a pretty cool place to hang out as long as you stay in the half mile to mile area that is relatively safe. I've walked around those areas of Detroit alone at night several times and I have never felt unsafe.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm rambling a bit in this post. I know not many people read the stuff from this account anyway.

I'm pretty excited though. Over the next couple of weeks, you can expect to see a lot of news about the Division II and Division I softball tournaments. You can also expect to hear the outcome of my nieces high school sectional game that is slated for tomorrow night.

Hopefully they can wake up after what was a sleepy local tournament on Saturday.

After that, I'll be trying to cover my nieces summer ball career and then prepping for the Summer Olympic games.

If May is any indication, it's going to be an exciting Summer!
