Lasers Head to Indy!
If you saw my post earlier this week, you probably remember that the Ohio Laser Scarlet team is heading to Indianapolis this weekend to play some softball. Actually, they are probably there already because their first game is today at 11:00 AM.
That's right, the tournament is starting on a Thursday. I honestly don't know why, maybe because the Fourth of July is right around the corner. It's hard to say. Softball is a mercurial thing where you need to expect the unexpected and if you think a schedule is set, it is likely going to change.
That's just the way the ball roles!
I feel like a lot of the tournaments they have been playing lately have included a lot of the same teams. I guess that will happen when you play mostly in the greater Columbus and surrounding area.
I am hoping this weekend will give them some new competition than they have seen in the past. It probably gets old just playing the same team(s) over and over and over again.
As I said, their first game starts at 11 this morning and they are facing off against The Ohio Hawks Kuhn team. The lady Lasers have a current record of 15-13-1. Their first opponent has a record of 13-7, so it could be a really good match up.
Of course I hope it goes in our favor.
15 - 13 is still a winning record and that isn't anything to be sad about, but I really feel like this team has a lot more potential. I hope that they can unlock that door that leads to it sometime soon. I have seen this team when they are firing on all cylinders and it is really something to behold.
They had a great fall season and that was without one of their better pitchers. Now that she is healthy, they should be crushing it.
I think they will get there, it just takes a little time. Personally, my niece has been having a killer season so far racking up some awesome stats. I have a feeling she is going to have a lot of college coaches chasing her when she becomes eligible.
Their second game today is at 6:30 against the So Cal Athletics Minister team. That's a long hike if they are really coming from Southern California to play in Indianapolis. Actually, I think this team might be from the Columbus area now that I look at it. I'm not sure why they would have that name.
Their record appears to be 11-7-1, so this could be another good match up for the Lasers. A lot of it just depends on what level of teams they have played in the past.
The Lasers just have one game on Friday at 2:00, so that might give them a good deal of time to do some sight seeing around the greater Indy area. Finally, they have two more scheduled games on Saturday at 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM. I am not sure if this is one of those tournaments that doesn't have bracket play, but if it is, let's hope they extend their weekend!
Check back on Monday for all the results from the weekend! My other niece isn't playing this weekend. Instead, she is going to the Taylor Swift concert in Cincinnati! I am so jealous!
Enjoy your time in Indy. It can be a great city. When I was still in the Marines, I was stationed on the active duty staff at the reserve center in Indy for about 3 years or so. There was a bar called Ike and Jonesies down town that had 50 cent beer night on Thursdays. To bad you couldn't be there tonight.
We actually didn't travel with them this past weekend. My sister and her husband used to live down there though. My nephew still lives in the city. It's a cool town for sure!
