Is there room on SportsTalk for Dlike?

avatar

I know there are a quite a few active members on Sports Talk Social who would answer the question in my title with a resounding "NO!".

Personally, I think there is room for Dlike content on STS as long as it is done in the correct way. Too often we see people simply paste the url from some article into Dlike and push publish.

Either that or they copy and paste the first paragraph of the article text and click on publish/submit. Thankfully, Dlike has started implementing some plagiarism checking to cut down on this sort of behavior.

I will be honest, it is actually pretty rare that I use Dlike. I am considered a "pro" user of the platform though and I can see the merits of it. Like Pintrest, I think it is an easy and effective place to share and talk about interesting articles you have found.

I understand the arguments that the original article isn't your content, so you shouldn't get upvotes for just reposting it. My response would be, that is the function of the platform though and if your moral compass keeps you from participating then that is your right. I don't hold that against you at all.

Not to toot my own horn, but I think I do a pretty good job when I do post to Dlike of mirroring how good it could be.

Take this post for example:

https://steemit.com/dlike/@bozz/evansville-got-big-payday-for-kentucky-upset

As soon as I read this article I knew I wanted to share it. I was hesitant to use Dlike, but I felt that was really the best method to share the post. If you visit that post, notice how I composed a good seven or eight paragraphs of original commentary and content.

I didn't even feel the need to quote the article to "fill space". The article is there if you want to read the whole thing because it is linked through Dlike, but the content of the post is wholly mine. The only piece that would come into question is the image.

That comes down to more of a copyright issue versus a plagiarism one and as referee9 I can attest that the majority of the community is less concerned about copyright infringement than they are about blatantly ripping off material.

As I mentioned, I am running for a ref position as referee9 and I have tried to be very careful about what I downvote when it comes to Actifit and Dlike posts. Some may consider them spammy, but I feel when used properly they definitely have a place on Sports Talk Social.

If you agree, please feel free to cast your vote for me as referee9. If you don't, you can still vote for me, I am a pretty fair and reasonable guy :)

Yes. There is a room. But I suggest only one post a day using Dlike, even for a pro member of Dlike who is allowed to post 3 times.

Good point! I agree with you. The three posts a day with minimal original content can be spammy.
