If I'm Being Modest...

I'm really trying hard not to be that cranky old man who complains about everything. I promise, I am not, but as I watch the Olympic games this year, I have noticed a trend that has become quite impossible to ignore.

Please, tell me if I am wrong, but has anyone else noticed that the uniforms for many of the sports in this years Olympics have virtually become non existent? As I sit here and watch these two weeks of athletes compete, I've seen more ass than you get on a weekend of late night Cinemax.

Water polo is the worst offender to be honest and while I fully admit that they are some of the most athletic people out there, I don't understand why the suits need to be cut the way they are.

Surely, someone is going to call me out and tell me that the problem is me. I'm clearly objectifying women, but to be fair, my wife has always made comments while we have been watching the Olympics. So clearly, it isn't just me.

There are sports were skimpy attire has always been sort of the norm. Volleyball, beach volleyball, etc, but now it seems that this trend has spread to even diving, and track and field. It's not just the women either. That poor pole vaulter whose pole cost him a qualification is a perfect example.

If there is a scientific reason, I'll be happy to accept that and move on with my life. It's not like I have to worry about it for another four years anyway. As someone mentioned in another forum, by then they might be back to competing naked like the ancient Greeks did.

In the grand scheme of things, I guess it really doesn't matter, but I just find it interesting to see how things have changed so much over the years.

What do you think? Have you noticed this trend or am I just some crazy Gen X'er ranting about nothing. I would guess it is probably viewed differently in Europe where nudity in general isn't as much of a hang up as it is here in the US.

Perhaps my Midwest Christian values are just getting the better of me.
