Going back to Findlay: AKA Back to Ohio

You like what I did there with the title? Two different songs for the price of one. Actually, this weekend wasn't about music at all, it was about softball. The original plan was for @mrsbozz and I to drive down to Bowling Green, OH on Sunday to watch our niece play softball with her university team.
A couple days before the weekend, she texted us to let us know she was going to be traveling with the other squad and instead of being in Bowling Green on Sunday, she was going to be in Findlay on Saturday.
Although Findlay is a little further away than BG, it actually worked out better for us, so we decided to adjust our plans and still go see her. Normally, her parents would have driven over from Columbus to watch her, but they were busy taking her sister to her first official college visit down in Virginia. I'll get to that more in a bit.

@mrsbozz and I got up at 5:00 in the morning so we could be on the road by 6:00 or 6:15 AM. It was a three hour drive down to Findlay, and like I said in my post last week, I wanted to make sure we got through Ann Arbor before the traffic for the Noon U of M football game got crazy.
We pulled into Marathon Diamonds down in Findlay just in time to watch my nieces team warm up. Their first game started at 10 AM and it was against Heidelberg University.

My niece had a couple really good at bats getting on base and going 2 for 3 I think in the first game. Sadly, Tiffin (her team) fell just a little short after leading most of the game and ended up losing 4 to 3 or something like that. It was a rally in the 6th inning that really turned things around for their opponent.
In between games she came over and talked to us for a bit. I think she was really happy that we were able to make the trip down to watch her play. Especially since her immediate family couldn't be there.

The second game started at noon and it was against the home team of Findlay University on their home field. My niece was the starting pitcher, but unfortunately, she was pulled in the first inning. Now, I don't want you to think I am making excuses, but I really don't feel like it was her fault.
There were at least four or five balls that should have been easy outs by her teammates, but the somehow muffed them in one way or another. There were some errant throws from third to first, and some dropped fly balls that put them at a deficit early on.
Totally not the pitchers fault, but sometimes you just need to change things up I guess.

Despite that fact, she still had a good game going 1 for 3 I think in the box and she robbed Findlay of a fly ball that went pretty deep. She was actually playing center field and had to run all the way to left field to catch it. The fans on the opposing team were shocked that she made it.
I was talking to her after the game and she said she felt like everything was in slow motion. She said it felt like she was walking on the moon trying to race over to get to that ball.

Meanwhile, as I said, my other niece (her sister) has just started her junior year of high school and that means she can now be recruited by Division I universities. The first to reach out to her is Radford in Radford Virginia. Her travel team decided to visit a camp down there and then my niece and her parents are staying an extra day to do a visit at the uni and meet with the coach.
It's very exciting for her and I have a feeling this will only be the first of many offers she gets and visits she makes. They had a couple of scrimmage games while they were down in VA and they won both of them. She had some great hits, but was caught stealing three times. That's sometimes on the coach though, so I'm sure it wasn't a big deal.
I just sent her text telling her good luck today.
I also talked to my other niece and the Tiffin game on Sunday we were originally going to attend, they ended up in a tie 5 to 5.
In all, it was a beautiful day and despite the losses and a bit of sunburn, we had a really good time. Plus just getting to see our niece is always worth it.
