Don't Call It A Comeback...

The lady Shamrocks continue to shine as they notched their second win in as many games against another team from Olentangy last night. While last Friday they faced the 11-8 team from Olentangy Orange, last night it was Olentangy Berlin that they gave a double digit beating to.
It was actually a really close game that went back and forth through much of the game. There is a player on my nieces team that absolutely drives me nuts. If you are familiar with Seinfeld, she is what is called a "chucker" and while she is able to make her shots from time to time, a lot of times they just fall flat much to the detriment of her team.
Honestly, whoever made up that saying you miss 100% of the shots you don't take should be kicked in the crotch. What was originally meant as an inspirational saying has been used as a free pass to not play as a team by young athletes all across the globe.
I can't tell you the number of times I see players take ill advised three point shots even though they could easily run the ball up the lane and settle for two. Those easy two point layups add up over time.
I'm not saying my nieces team is perfect, far from it. They have a lot of fundamental stuff they need to work on, but I can't help but think how many close games they might have won if they had just settled for the two point shots instead of shooting a three, not getting the rebound and basically turning over the ball after a one and done possession.
If it doesn't infuriate the coach, he needs to be fired because ultimately that behavior rests solely on his shoulders.
I'm getting side tracked though.

Obviously, my niece is exempt from all of this ranting and raving. She played amazing and she really is a defensive force on the court. It's pretty rare that a player is able to slip past her. She has done quite well earning to get in the way without drawing a foul and I have a feeling she frustrates a fair number of young ladies who face off against her.
I do have to say, the officiating at the game last night was pretty horrible from what we could see. My brother in law texted us late in the fourth quarter expressing his frustrating that there had only been four fouls called on the other team the whole game.
In fact, there was a play where the girl from the other team went up in the air and landed fully on top of my niece and they called our niece for the foul. It was pretty ridiculous. The good thing about watching the games at home is you can swear at the officials without getting kicked out of the game.

As I said though, they came away with a double digit victory 55 to 44, so it was really nice to see that. This team has been struggling to find themselves most of the season with very little direction from the head coach, so I hope this ends up being the push they need heading into the playoff season. With only a handful of games left, they need to be at the top of their game.
