Coming Through in the Clutch

It's going to feel a bit weird fumbling through this weekend without there being college football on the TV. It's pretty much become a staple over the past several of months. When we happen to be home of course. Despite there being no college football on this weekend (until Monday of course), there will probably still be quite a few sporting events on my TV.

Saturday we have two of the NFL games and then on Sunday we have two more. Meanwhile, there are also a fair number of college basketball games on the schedule for the weekend. I cannot confirm nor deny that Saturday might be spent dozing on the couch with four of those games being shown in YouTube TV multi-view on my 42" Visio.

I know for sure that on Sunday I will be watching Michigan State hit the court against Illinois at Noon. This game is even more important now that Michigan lost to Minnesota last night on an epic buzzer beater in overtime. It was pretty impressive and it now makes Michigan State the only team in the Big 10 without a conference loss yet.

It's just a matter of time, big games happen during the regular season. I just hope it isn't Michigan that hands them a loss. Even a ranked opponent so that they don't fall too far in the rankings if they do lose.

The NFL action starts on Saturday at 4:30 PM. I can't tell you just how bad I hope the Texans take down the Chiefs. I know there is a good chance that the officials are going to try and hand this game to KC. It's just a matter of how obvious they will be about it. In the past they haven't been very subtle about it.

As I have said before, I don't really feel like KC is that great of a team. I think Detroit could have beat them in the Super Bowl last year if they hadn't stumbled in their game against San Francisco. Houston showed they aren't going to roll over last weekend, I hope they bring that same energy this week.

Detroit still has a lot to prove and all of that comes to a head on Saturday night at 8:00 PM. This might be one of the rare occasions I actually stay up for the full late night game. Washington isn't going to be an easy team to play. Though that's what many of us thought about Minnesota too.

It's interesting how much excitement there is around the Lions. As soon as anyone finds out I am from Michigan, the first thing they usually want to talk about is the Lions. It's a nice change for once!

Sunday we have the Rams facing the Eagles at 3:00 PM and Baltimore taking on Buffalo at 6:30. As far as Vegas is concerned, Baltimore and Buffalo will be the closest game of the weekend. We will see...

Then of course on Monday night at 7:30 PM we have the college football national championship with Ohio State taking on Notre Dame. OSU is the clear favorite, but I wouldn't be willing to put any money down on this game. Notre Dame has shown the Irish definitely have some fight in them. They might hang tough with OSU.

We will see...

Needless to say, instead of college football on Monday I will be talking about the NFL, then on Tuesday I will talk about the championship instead of NFL stuff.

Stay tuned!
