Checking in on the Dragons and Highlanders

I just realize it's been a while since I posted anything about softball. With the NCAA tournament right around the corner, it has been pretty easy to understand why basketball is monopolizing my posts. That doesn't mean that softball hasn't been happening. Quite the contrary. In fact, just the other day I was watching a match up between Ohio State and Texas as I was walking on the treadmill in the morning.
It's been nice to see softball back on the TV and I hope to watch a lot more of it in the coming months. You better believe once the Women's College World Series comes around I will be basically glued to the TV!
As you might remember, my oldest niece plays for the Tiffin Dragons. She has taken a year off from the team to focus on being a new mom, but I still follow them as best I can. They recently returned from a Spring Break trip down to Florida where they had a mixed bag of success.
I don't quite remember where I left off, so I will go back to March 6th when they had two games. The first was a win over Grand Valley State University which is right across the state and a little bit south from where I live. They beat them 8 to 3 down in Clermont Florida.
After that, they had a tough 1 to 0 loss to a team from Lynn University. I'm not even sure where that is!
Fast forward a bit to March 8th and they were still in Florida, but this time they had moved the games to Melbourne Florida.
They lost the first game 7 to 6 against Florida Tech, and then they won their second game 12 to 0 in five innings against Roosevelt University. The dragons are back in action this coming Friday with a couple of games on their home field against my old school Saginaw Valley State University.
Then on Saturday they have another double header at home against Grand Valley State University again.
What I haven't really mentioned is the fact that my younger niece is going to be playing for the Radford University Highlanders starting next season. They are currently on a two game losing streak and they have a 12-16 record on the season so far.
It's important to remember, this is a Division 1 school, so they are playing against some really high quality teams. For example, some of their recent losses include North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Penn State.
They are also back in action on Friday with a single game against Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina. They also have a double header against them on Saturday. Then on Tuesday they have a home game against Charlotte University.
I'm really looking forward to heading down to Virginia next year to watch my niece play with the team.
I'll do my best to keep you updated with how both teams are doing through the rest of the season.

I want you to understand that there is absolutely zero judgement on my part when I ask this but is the child the new mom, or is her mom a new mom?
My niece had a baby. Didn't realize she was even pregnant. Delivered it herself on the bathroom floor. Crazy way to start a Wednesday morning... They are both healthy thankfully and the baby is beautifully perfect.
