Catching More Than a Softball Game...
This past weekend @mrsbozz and I got up relatively early on Sunday morning to take the drive down to Ft. Wayne Indiana to watch our niece play softball with her university team. They were playing the Purdue university team.
Well, sort of.
It's not "the" Purdue that you are probably thinking of, but it's a satellite campus of that team. The funny thing is, unlike the actual Purdue team whose mascot is the Boilermakers, this Purdue team has a mascot of the Mastodons. I don't get it...
Anyway, we woke up to a beautiful sunrise as we hit the road.
It was a little over three hours for us to make it down to Ft. Wayne. Thankfully, they pushed the games up from a 1:00 start time to 11:00 AM since there was some rain coming in that they were hoping to avoid. It was as double header and despite that, we still got rained on. In fact, they had to postpone the second game because it was raining so hard.
@mrsbozz and I ended up packing up and heading home early.
We did get to see my niece for a little bit though, so that was cool. We didn't get to watch her play, but she has an injury she sustained in practice that has kept her off the field for a bit. I don't think she minds too much though. You can tell she is already starting to settle into the idea of life after college and softball. That doesn't mean she isn't going to give it 110% when she is on the field, but unlike a lot of people, she knows this is only temporary.
I admire her maturity. A lot of people try to hold onto some things for way too long. She will always love softball and I think she might follow in her dads footsteps and coach one day, but who knows.
It was a pretty nice facility at Purdue Ft. Wayne. I know that Tiffin where my niece plays just got a pretty big donation and they are going to be doing some huge renovations to the softball area there, so I can't wait to get down there to see those.
For some reason, it felt like the drive home took a lot longer than the drive down. I had already mentioned to @mrsbozz that I kind of felt like my throat hurt. She was sympathetic as long as what ever I had I didn't pass along to her.
On a whim, I decided to give myself one of our severely outdated Covid tests when I got home. I showed it to my wife and she suggested I take another one since the line was so faint. The second one came back as negative.
I wasn't feeling much better by Tuesday, so I went to the doctor and sure enough, for the first time in my life, I tested positive for Covid. I went back to work on Tuesday like a moron and I have been paying the price for pushing myself too hard the rest of this week. I'll be lucky if I get to go back into the office tomorrow.
I'm not saying I got Covid down in Ft. Wayne, I probably was exposed earlier than that, but I honestly don't know how I managed to get us home. The 3+ hour drive bag seems like a fog now!
I don't know how you drove either! That hits you like a wrecking ball, physically and mentally. I hope you feel better soon. Rest is the best thing. It's so tricky because once your immune system is triggered you get this wave of feeling better but that wave doesn't last long. Take care of yourself my friend!
I'm guessing that was Monday. I took the day off and really didn't feel as bad as I thought I would. Then I went in Tuesday and I barely made it through the day. I'd say Tuesday and Wednesday have been the worst so far.
