Can you say four-peat?
Like I said yesterday, I am not ashamed to admit when I am wrong. Oklahoma proved that they are the top dog last night by beating Texas 8 to 4 and sweeping the Women's College World Series. It's a good thing I didn't put any money down on it because I would have lost it all!
With that, you should start to see some of my softball posts taper off now. At least a little bit. I am still going to be following and covering my nieces travel team this summer. In fact, I am leaving work early today to drive down to Ohio to watch her play this weekend. I'm looking forward to that.
It's a totally different beast watching her play travel ball versus school ball. While she loves the game in general, she really loves her travel team. She just has this confidence and swagger that you don't always see when she is playing school ball. It's impressive. Even more so in person.
It looks like it is going to be a beautiful weekend weather-wise, so overall, it should be a pretty good time.
Sorry, back to the WCWS just for a second. @mrsbozz and I were watching the game last night and we couldn't help but notice how nice the stadium is that they use for the games. Devon Park/Stadium has a capacity of something like 13,000 seats. That's pretty impressive and I think it's right on par with the local minor league baseball park near where I live.
Actually, I take that back. Devon Park has twice the seating capacity of Dow Diamond if you don't take into account the lawn seats. That just goes to show you how big softball is down south. It's always basically a home game for Oklahoma playing at the park right in Oklahoma City. I guess I should have taken that into account.
It's a pretty big weekend for my niece. They have three games today, three games tomorrow, and then bracket play on Sunday. The action starts at 1:00 PM today when they take on "The Originals 15U" team. Right after that game, they have a 2:40 start time against Ohio Hawks 16U. Finally to finish the day they play Shockwave 07 at 6:00 PM. That will probably the only game we see today as we likely won't make it down to the field in time to watch the other two.
Tomorrow they continue pool play first thing in the morning with an 8 AM game against Indiana Magic Gold, then at 9:40 they face off against Cincy Doom Premier. Finally, they close out their day at 1:00 PM against Illinois Force National.
The games on Sunday will be determined once pool play is completed. If the Lasers play early enough in the morning we will likely catch one or two of those games before we head home.
Be sure to check back Monday for all the results of the games this weekend!
