Are you ready for some football?
As much as I wish I was watching the Detroit Lions play in the Superbowl this weekend, it just wasn't meant to be. It could have happened, but the Lions clearly have some stuff they need to work on. Just don't forget, the Superbowl doesn't come on until Sunday night and there are plenty of other things going on this weekend before that happens.
Like tonight I will hopefully be watching the stream of my niece play basketball. Last night I got to watch our friends daughter play with her junior varsity team via streaming. She had some really good defensive plays and I am really proud of her. She also has a good hustle down the court. That shows ambition and I like that.
Unfortunately, her team lost, but she still played hard and that is enough for me at the end of the day.
So yeah, the Superbowl this weekend. You probably know already that my money will be on San Francisco. Honestly, I don't really care who wins, but I am on three or four betting boards, so I will be paying more attention to the scores at the end of the quarters versus the actual game.
Who are you cheering for this weekend?
I got an alert yesterday that Division 1 University softball is starting. That is pretty exciting. My wife and I always try to catch a game every now and then. I'm looking forward to spending some time on the edge of a field or two this summer. Plus, we have our big trip to Denver, so that is exciting.
Speaking of exciting, men's college basketball did not disappoint this week.
We started off on Monday with #4 Kansas falling to Kansas State in overtime. I love that so much. I really can't stand Hunter Dickenson, the first part of his last name fits him to a "T", and any time his Jayhawks lose, I am pretty happy.
Clemson didn't want to be left out on Tuesday, so they took down #3 North Carolina 80 to 76. Are you keeping track so far? That's a loss for the #3 and #4 team so far this week.
Oklahoma upset #21 BYU 71 to 62, and Nevada beat #22 Utah State 77 to 63. Remember that last game because it is going to be important by the end of my post. #17 Kentucky slammed the hammer down on Vanderbilt 109 to 77. Meanwhile, #13 Baylor had a tough game against #23 Texas Tech, but came away with a 79 to 73 victory.
Wednesday gave us five games in the top 25. The biggest upset of the night was probably Michigan beating #11 Wisconsin. It would have been nice if Michigan State had been the ones to take down Wisconsin, but I guess we can't always get what we want.
Providence upset #19 Creighton for some exciting Big East action.
I should also mention. Michigan State lost a big game to Minnesota. It should have been an easy win for them, but they somehow found a way to lose. I've seen some articles talking about how Izzo is mismanaging his team and should be more open to using the transfer portal, but I don't see that changing. I just don't know what to think about it. The way this is going though, we won't be watching the Spartans in March for the first time in a long time and that is a sad sad prospect.
Finally, last night we had a couple barn burners as far as top 25 basketball goes. #8 Arizona had a tough go against Utah who took them into three overtimes, but ultimately fell short of the upset. Utah lost 99 to 15. Then, UAB took down #20 Florida Atlantic in overtime 76 to 73.
Remember I told you to remember Nevada for later in the post? They take on #24 San Diego State tonight and I wouldn't be surprised if they were able to pull off a home upset win. I might even put money on that!
Saturday we have a ton of basketball on the schedule. If I had to pick a couple key games to watch...
#19 Creighton at Xavier could be an upset for the Musketeers, TCU vs. #14 Iowa State could be a good game too.
For sure check out Gonzaga at #17 Kentucky and #13 Baylor at #4 Kansas. That K-State at #21 BYU game could be good too.
Above all, I hope you have a great weekend and eat some good food while watching some sports!
The best thing about the transfer portal is the Dr. Pepper commercial..
That is a really good commercial!
I'm rooting for KC but I think that SanFran is a much better team. I'm betting on SanFran but just a small amount. I will be pleased with either outcome though.
I just wrote a post with my feelings on the game. KC definitely has dynasty thing going now, but they sure didn't look like they did several years ago. It feels more like luck for them these days.
A few crucial moments in the game could have changed everything such as fumbling on a kickoff deep in your own territory and that PAT that got blocked, which I am sure you are aware almost never happens, ended up being at least 2 things that lost the game for SanFran. I still think that the Niners looked like the better team but as you say, KC just got lucky.
Indeed. I still think the Lions could have wiped the floor with KC, they already proved it at the beginning of the season.
I am always ready for this game because I love this game so much that I can't forget watching it.
Cool, what was your favorite part of the game last night?
