A great day to be a Spartan

Now that we are getting closer to the national tournament, I am going to be writing about basketball a little more than I used to in the past. Plus football is gone for the time being and softball hasn't really kicked into full gear yet, so I am a little bit bored!

There were some really good games on this past weekend. The biggest one for me was on Friday night and if I told you I wasn't worried about it then I would totally be lying. I was nervous as a guy with seven cavities going to the dentist. I just had this feeling that something horrible was going to happen.

Thankfully, that wasn't the case, but I think deep down inside I am just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Michigan State may have taken care of Michigan on Friday night, but they still have some big match ups on the schedule, including another showdown with U of M in their last game of the regular season.

At this point, it would take a lot for Michigan State not to make it to the tournament. They have made it in with less impressive records in the past. Right now it's just a matter of them playing for seed position and who knows how that is all going to turn out.

Last Thursday night there was only one game in the top 25. It was in the Big Ten conference and (20) Maryland beat USC 88 to 71. This is an important thing to remember because Michigan State lost their game against USC and their next opponent is Maryland at Maryland. I hope they can avoid getting upset.

Friday night there were two games in the top 25. They were both upsets with Villanova beating (16) Marquette 81 to 66, and (14) Michigan State beating (12) Michigan 75 to 62. I still don't quite know how Michigan got ranked higher than Michigan State. Sure, MSU had that stretch of bad losses for a while there, but it is almost like U of M jumped right from twenty something to the high teens. Thankfully that should get rectified now that the new rankings are out.

Saturday gave us fifteen games in the top 25. Oregon had a huge overtime win against (11) Wisconsin 77 to 73, and Oklahoma took down (21) Mississippi State 93 to 87. There were a handful of top ten matchups over the weekend that didn't result in upsets, but they were still very good games.

Vanderbilt continued to play spoiler this season beating (24) Ole Miss 77 to 72 and Arkansas beat (15) Missouri 92 to 85. Finally, BYU continued their streak beating (19) Arizona 96 to 95. Auburn remains number 1 in the nation with a 82 to 70 win over Georgia.

Sunday there were only three games in the top 25 and only one of them was an upset. It came to us via the Big Ten where Indiana took down (13) Purdue in a massive 73 to 58 stomping.

Last night there were only two games in the top 25 and neither of them were upsets. I would like to point out that (15) Michigan narrowly beat Nebraska 49 to 46. That's an insanely low scoring game. I hope the Wolverines continue to struggle going into their final game of the season against Michigan State as well as into the Big Ten Tournament.

Tonight there are nine games in the top 25, I will give you the full update on those games on Thursday or Friday this week.

absurdly low scoring game. When I saw the score I assumed it was a high-school girls' game.

Haha, I know right! I didn't watch the game, but I have to imagine it was pretty painful. Hats off to the defense though I guess!
