A big loss and a split decision

I was half tempted to write the post about the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory from this account because it is sports related after all. Instead, I wrote it from my main account and I am going to use this account to recap the Tigers game last night as well as the double header my nieces college team played.

The town of Findlay, OH is just a a short drive down the road from Tiffin University, so it is only fitting that the two teams would be natural rivals. They had their first meeting of the season last night in Tiffin and it was a pretty good set of games.

Tiffin fell behind early in the first game only to come back and enter the 7th inning in an 8 to 8 tie. They put some runners on the bases in the bottom of the 7th and eventually won the game with a walk-off 9 to 8. They actually finished the game with 10 total runs, but since it was a walk off they only count the first run that ends the game.

The second game was a bit tougher and they eventually fell 2 to 1. Offense has been a bit of a struggle for the Dragons in the early season. It is nice to see their bats get hot. Up until now it has just been one or two players who have been providing most of the offense.

A 9 run game shows that is starting to change.

On the Tigers side of things, it looks like they are going to claim this is a "rebuilding" season because so far, I haven't seen to much to get excited about.

The Tigers fell to the Blue Jays 9 to 3 with Toronto splashing their offense across pretty much every inning. It was the five run 8th that really clinched things for them. I remember well the days of Detroit's bullpen woes, so this feels quite familiar to me.

When you have starters like Verlander, Scherzer, Porcello, but can't finish a game, then you know you have a problem. I honestly don't recognize too many of the names from this year, but it is still pretty telling when you look at the box score where the issues lay.

I get the distinct impression I am going to sound like a broken record at least for the first part of this season. If they don't settle into some kind of groove soon, it is going to be a long couple of months for them.

They are sitting just below Kansas City in the AL Central and it is going to be a chase to catch up to the White Sox. Right now it's not even close. Like I said though, baseball is a long season and we still have plenty of time.

At this point I am just hoping they can finish over 50/50 on the season.

Minnesota is leading the AL Central with Cleveland close behind them.

That's all I have for today. Check back tomorrow when I have some more softball/baseball updates!
