I'm here again to talk about the topic of week 3 edition 1 in the #HiveLearners community titled My Favorite Sports.

We all love to watch or play sports, and there is a particular sports that we always want to watch or play, this sports is our favorite of them all.

So today I would to share with you my favorite, which is one if the popular sports known as VOLLEYBALL

What is Volleyball?

Volleyball is a game in sports, it is the combination of tennis, baseball, basketball and handball. Played by two teams made up of six players each, Unlike football where players uses their leg, in volleyball players uses hand to bat the ball back and forth over a net which is high, in order for the ball to touch the court of the opponents area without being able to return it back.
The sports is said to be played by more than 800 million people on the planet.

History
Let me talk about a little history of this amazing sports.

Volleyball was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895 a teacher in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He created the game for people wanted less physical contact than basketball. He borrowed the idea of net from tennis and raised it six feet above the floor, above man's head. The sports game was made for businessmen who found the game if basketball too stressful.

How to play Volleyball

It is played by two teams made up of six players each, the players use their hand to bat the ball back and forth, each team is trying to make the ball touch the court of the opponent without before it can be returned, each team try to prevent this by batting the ball up and towards a teammate before it touches the court surface, the teammate nay then volley it back across the net.
Note: A team is allowed only three touches of the ball before being returned over the other side of the opponent.
When the receiving team wins a volley, it is expected for the team to serve, and the players rotates un a clockwise position.
But if the serving teams wins the volley, points are won and the team is to continue serving.
The ball must not come in contact with the net.
The game is played to 21 points, in a local situation others can agree upon number. If a teams wins two out of three games, that team wins the match.

Words used in Volleyball

-Ace: This means when the ball is served to the other team and no one touches it.

-Sideout: When the team serves the ball and makes a mistake, causing the ball to go to the other team.

-Dig: when a player makes a save from a very difficult position, it is known as Dig.

-Roof: when a player jumps very high above the net and blocks the ball.

-Kill: as the name implies, when team spikes the ball and it ends in either a point or sideout, it is called kill.

Why I Love This Sport

This sports is very easy and fun for me, unlike other sports which stresses the day out of me e.g football, I cannot imagine my self running to and fro in a big feild for an hour plus. Volleyball is easy to play for a female like me, a female can do well in this sports without stress. It also fits my time schedules, I always enjoyed sports played with hands and not leg.

This is one the sports I loved to watch at the Olympics, the fun of this game is unmeasurable.
